I couldn't get told the sex of the baby because it wouldn't roll over!!
I know that all that matters is that the baby is born healthy but for practical reasons I wanted to find out. I have loads of old clotyhes from ds which I can either sell or use again also I want to know for decorating the nursery and getting ds prepared for his brother or sister.
Anyone know how I can get another scan I have been told I wont need another one but really want to find out!

Pay for a private one

pedilia · 14/04/2008 14:22

Your only other option is to pay for a private scan

ChutneyMary · 14/04/2008 14:22

Can you get a private scan? Doubt NHS will give you another one for this reason alone.

Youcannotbeserious · 14/04/2008 14:28

I'd go private.

It's not really fair to ask the NHS to do it - they are overworked as it is (and you are right that this isn't the point of the scan)

But, I must admit, I couldn't wait to know either!

slinkiemalinki · 14/04/2008 14:33

Regardless of whether it's fair, there is no way they'll scan you again for gender determination...seems like private is the only way to go!

spicemonster · 14/04/2008 14:34

It's not that expensive to get a private scan - a couple of hundred quid

NorthernLurker · 14/04/2008 14:37

Don't sell the clothes - baby girls don't mind wearing blue and don't decorate the nursery - it is recommended that you have baby in with you for the first 6 mths anyway and it'll give dh something to do on his paternity leave [grin. I wanted to know with waht turned out to be dd3 for similar practical reasons - they couldn't tell then either. So we waited - and the moment we found she was another girl was just the most wonderful joyful surprise. Save the cost of a private scan and go for a mum to be massage instead

lackaDAISYcal · 14/04/2008 14:42

I found out the sex of my DD and wish I hadn't now. I'm pregnant again and don't think we'll bother this time.

You can go for a private scan, either a normal one or a 3D one. there are various places that do them around the country.

And, even though we knew that DD would be a girl, we didn't decorate the nursery (still blue with stars and planets from her big bro) as she was in our room to start with. She's now 10 months, and loves the stars and planets so much, we've decided to keep it till she's older and actually asks for shocking pink with fluff and princesses.

sweetkitty · 14/04/2008 14:50

Private scan for foetal sexing only is about £75.

HairyToe · 14/04/2008 15:14

They can get the sex wrong at the scan. So even if you're told the sex you could end up getting rid of clothes you should have kept or preparing Ds for the wrong one.

OFSTEDoutstanding · 14/04/2008 21:31

Seems like the answer is to go private does anybody know of anywhere in Cambridgeshire or Norfolk. There is one company I have found called babybond does anyone know if they are any good?

Why don't you call your midwife - quite often hospitals do private as well as nhs scans. Mine does - it costs £40 which is much cheaper than private companies.

Contact the Rosie in Cambridge and ask. They were very good with me when I was PG.

pinkyminky · 14/04/2008 22:04

I would be wary- I do have friends who had been convinced by scans they were having freda when it turned out to be fred! I like getting an idea of the sex, but I wouldn't count on it 100%.

chloeb2002 · 14/04/2008 22:28

dito pinky minky.. at 20 week sacn we were having a freda..at 28 weeks it was still freda and changed to fred at 32 weeks. stayed fred since. only knew he had changed because the radiographer said wow hes a big boy this one... i nearly fell off teh bed. not bought anything pink anyway... but still it was a shock. Had allready told mysel only buy newbie clothes that will be unisex.. play it safe. the only way to know 100% is cvs i believe but hell of a risk..

pinkyminky · 14/04/2008 22:49

Chloe

LikerabbitsBX · 15/04/2008 09:14

It is actually £79 for a gender scan from babybond. We had a great experience.

OatcakeCravings · 15/04/2008 10:09

Hi,

We went to a Babybond clinic and it was around £75 for the sexing scan - it think it would be really unlikely that they would get it wrong, if they were unsure 'cos they couldn't see (which happened to us), you are told to go for a walk and jiggle a bit to get the baby in a better position.

goingfor3 · 15/04/2008 10:14

Same thing happened to me as chloeb2002. 20 weeks girl, 27 weeks the sonographer was doubtful about it being a girl and 30 weeks baby had a very large scrotum! I'll find out which was right in about 6 weeks.

slinkiemalinki · 15/04/2008 10:17

My baby had a scrotum at 17 weeks so I do dearly hope it's not a girl...

FYIAD · 15/04/2008 10:28

you really do NOT need to know

women have managed for years not knowing

why dont you decorate the nursery in cream? and ds doesnt need to know either.

slinkiemalinki · 15/04/2008 10:31

Er what business is it of yours FYIAD if the OP wants to know? Many people (probably more than half) want to find out, get organised, get a nice layette in the right colour. And some people find it helps them bond more once they have an idea of the baby's sex.

Women managed for years without (1) ultrasound scans (2) pain relief (3) proper antenatal care. Doesn't mean we shouldn't benefit from it now!

oliviaelanasmum · 15/04/2008 10:33

A private company does exing scans at the hotel nr. Asda in Norwich, wil try and find the leaflet.
