C Section Infection

I had a c section (emergency) 3 weeks ago today. Healing was going relatively well (pain aside) however on Saturday I noticed a small infection at one end of the scar where the stitch hasn't come out. It's come out this morning but it's red and sore. The doctor prescribed antibiotics which should hopefully help, however the pain which was improving is now back with full force, not only across the scar but the whole of my abdomen now feels tender when it didn't before. Is this normal? I've got an appointment with the nurse tomorrow to have it looked at and check if it needs to be dressed. It's more so knowing if the pain I'm in is normal as I'm still struggling to move round the house, let alone leave it at the moment and with a three year old as well and my husband going back to work next week I'll have no idea how I'll manage 😭 looking for reassurance I guess for anyone who's been in the same position x

Is the redness spreading at all and does it looks inflamed? Or is there any pus or weepiness/fluid coming from it? Have you got a temperature or any other signs of infection? Id say dont be scared to go to an out of hours clinic or call 111 overnight if it seems to be getting worse. If youve got antibiotics already did they think it was infected when they saw you?

Forgot to actually say as well - i had dissolving stiches in mine so never had them out but i did get a few infections. I never had the whole abdomen pain youre describing, but to be honest i didnt get that much pain overall at all and managed fine on paracetamol. Everyone is different though so id say if your pain is increasing or theres any other symptoms then get some more advice! Oh and if your partner is going back to work and youre not physically ready yet, he can take unpaid parental leave if needed if youre too sick to care for your 3 year old. Good luck!

Hey OP. I also had a c section nearly 3 weeks ago and I’m in the same position as you! I’m still in pain and struggling to do things, I can’t bend down or lie flat etc. I’ve also got an infection in my scar and been prescribed antibiotics. My pain has gone back to that of Day 3/4 of the op. My partner went back to work this week so needless to say I’ve not much as my recovery hasn’t gone to plan. I did mention this to my health visitor and midwife and they both said it’s a 6-8 week recovery, everyone is different but it effects some more than others. I hope we both can recover asap and get back to normal for our babies x

@curiouscat1987 it's not spreading luckily and I feel fine in myself. It's more so the constant pain and effort trying to move around which is worrying. Feels almost the same level of pain as when I left hospital when it was improving so much...it's so tricky as my partner already had an extra week off work and they've delayed a project starting with him being off, he's definitely needed back next week and can't see him being allowed parental leave. Just no idea how it'll work with my older child... Seeing the nurse today so hoping she can prescribe some stronger painkillers and look into it more 🤞🏻

@AimeeLou84 so sorry to hear you're going through the same thing. It's awful isn't it, particularly when you see other people back to normal by two weeks. The pain is too much, think it's more worrying why it's got so much worse, its not as though I've stretched myself either with my partner being off... Think it's luck of the draw but doesn't make it any less frustrating 😩I'm so hoping the nurse can help today, I can't just wait another 3 weeks and hope it gets better, considering how it feels I've got backwards 😔 hope yours feels better asap!
