2 yolk sacs but no embryos seen at 7 weeks

I had an internal ultrasound scan last week (roughly 7 weeks) that showed one gestational sac and 2 yolk sacs but no embryos. The sonographer said if she hadn't known my dates she would have thought I was just early on but with my dates she would expect to see embryos. Have a scan booked for 5th August to double check but we're assuming it's not going to be good news. Has anyone had a similar experience and had good news?

How long is your cycle and do you track ovulation?

H24 · 30/07/2024 14:05

So I've only just got my period back after being on contraception, but the one cycle I've had was 31days, and no I don't track ovulation....

I have 31 day cycles and I ovulate one week late (day 21) which will put me a week back. Maybe you ovulated late and you are actually 5/6 weeks

If you didn’t track when ovulation occured then you could actually be earlier than you think? Eg ovulated later?

When did you test and get a positive pg test?

H24 · 30/07/2024 20:59

Got a positive test (quite faint) 30th June... Assumed I wouldn't get that until at least 4 weeks? But I guess if it's twins maybe hormone levels are higher so showed early?

I got a positive test about 10 days after ovulation. 4 weeks would be 14 days post ovulation. I also ovulate later like @Kt1704. So if I go by last period I would be a week ahead of where I actually am. Hopefully this is the case with you but at least next scan you should have clarity either way. Fingers crossed x

Thanks all! That's helpful. Holding onto some hope that dates are a bit off but not sure if I'm being naive as it seemed like protocol to rescan rather than any actual hope but I guess it'll become clear on Monday...

Hi,
Do you have an update? Going through something similar.

H24 · 10/04/2026 02:10

@Golden02 I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through something simir..it's pretty rubbish waiting. Unfortunately for us nothing progressed. However, after a couple of months (which felt like such a long time at the time) we conceived again and we now have 6 month old twins! Really hope things progress for you this time

Unfortunately we did not get the outcome we were hoping for this time. I'm so happy for you - that is amazing that you have twins now! Praying for a similar outcome for me next time!

H24 · 10/04/2026 20:10

I'm so sorry 😔 I wouldn't wish it on anyone, it's heartbreaking isn't it. Give yourself time to heal and I hope in a few months things work out ❤️ sending lots of love.
