What type of pregnancy pillow are you using? You might need a different shape one to help you to stay on your side. And you will find as you get bigger that you won't physically be able to sleep on your front as it won't be comfortable.

I used to build a fort around me with pillows I'd have a pillow behind my back to stop me rolling onto my back one under my bump and my pregnancy pillow between my legs it's the only way I could get even kind of comfortable

I have a long L shaped one and a round ish one

yeah I’m going to have to prop myself up, I’m pretty big now tbh but I just am dying to like on my front… feel so guilty for feeling this way though!

@Eqei I just wanted to say I’m with you on this one! I’m 20+4 and am a serial stomach sleeper! I can’t sleep any other way!

Killerqueenie · 30/07/2024 21:01

I'm usually a side sleeper, but when I was pregnant I only wanted to sleep on my tummy or my back 😒 I was so uncomfortable. My husband used to wake me up as I'd rolled onto my back. I also had carpal tunnel first time round, and sleeping on my side was agony as it would cut off circulation in my arms. I basically slept upright for months. After baby was born I still couldn't sleep on my stomach as my boob's were sore 😂 it's only a short time but use as many pillows as you need. My husband was nearly off the edge of the bed with the amount of pillows I had.

CluelessInLondon · 30/07/2024 21:06

@Eqei Try arranging the long pillow as tightly along your front as you can - I have a C shaped pillow and I do that with mine but along my back to help stop me from rolling over. Makes things a bit toasty when the weather is hot like it is now, but it mostly works.

@Killerqueenie I have carpal tunnel at the moment, it's awful - it's so hard to sleep on my side without squashing my arms, and every time I think I've figured it out I have a bad night where I keep waking up with pins and needles!

Oh no, so sorry, it's awful isn't it. By the end of my pregnancy I barely had any use of my hands as they completely clamped shut, but that was due to swelling from pre-eclampsia in the end. Have you tried wearing wrist splints that have the metal bars in them? They helped me a great deal, as did running my wrists under warm water. I also used to get my husband to massage my wrists and hands to try and get the blood flowing better.

@Killerqueenie @CluelessInLondon omg I have been having the worst pain down my arm and kept thinking it was just because I’m sleeping forcefully on that side. Never even considered carpal tunnel!
the pins and needles are real 😩

thanks for your comments and advice!
lying on my back is my favoured 2nd position too, trying to stay propped up but it’s not happening 🤣

will definitely try wrapping myself up in the pillow.. last time round I slept so well through my pregnancy.. this time is just a nightmare! the pelvic and pubic pain started in the first trimester too 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Pain down my arm and pins and needles was how mine started. The pain then started moving down to my wrists. It was awful, I barely slept at all from the pain. Luckily it went away almost immediately after baby was born.

I used to fantasise about having a bed with a hole in it to put my belly in so I could lay on my stomach 😂 hope you find a way to make yourself comfortable.

ConfessionsOfAMumDramaQueen · 31/07/2024 11:32

I was a stomach sleeper but even at 12 weeks I felt pressure and wasn't comfortable on front either. Only way I slept was a U shaped pillow, propping up on orthopedic wedge, on my side.

JanglyBeads · 31/07/2024 11:44

I often slept on my front - well propped sideways with one knee bent up - and my midwife said it was fine. I now have a very healthy 17 yr old!

Yes wrist splints at night are brilliant for carpal tunnel and not uncomfortable or anything
