Amby Nests - Opinions Please

Hi all,

Currently pregnant with my first LO and very aware that as a baby I had bad colic and never slept, this has led me to consider an Amby Nest over the more traditional cot format. However my DH thinks I'm being suckered and we are going to spend money on something we never use.

Does anyone have one and if so what where / are your experiences?

All opinions welcome.

I loved mine (well - my dd did - I never slept in it ). She slept well in it and always looked very comfortable (pic on profile if you're interested). It worked well for us because dd was a very big baby and would have outgrown a moses basket more quickly than we would have wanted to move her into her own room (and the cot bed wouldn't have fitted in our bedroom but the nest did)

Its also really portable so was easy to use as a travel cot which was great because she was used to sleeping in it so we never had any issues with her getting used to another bed if we stayed away

If you need more ammunition for DH - the resale price on ebay is very good (probably 70% of full price) - so it would actually work out cheaper long term than a moses basket

No, I'm also being serious, they are good bits of kit.
Easy to have by your own bed and the bouncing motion does seem to comfort.

Did find them a bit hard to get your baby in and out of - mainly into when your baby is asleep and you want to transfer them, there is a bit of technique you have to get used to.

They do only last 12 months though and some people find the transition to regular bed afterwards a problem.

But overall we thought it was worth it. And you can sell on for good money afterwards too.

Do you know of any stockists where I could haul my DH along for a look to try and appease his concerns, or is internet shopping the only option that I have?

Where are you? The A3 Baby Barn near Chessington tends to have one actualy set up.

Another big plus isthat you can sell them in eBay for virtually the same price as new, so if you did get one and not like it you wouldn't be significantly out of pocket.

I'm in the North East of England or Glasgow generally, did a bit of a troll around Glasgow on Saturday but to no avail. My husbands sceptisism wasn't helped by the fact that all the baby shops we entered looked at me as though I had made the whole thing up.

I love ours, Jasmine sleeps sooo well in hers. I hate the idea if having to move her into a cot

I would say definitely worth it, for all the reasons other people have said - better sleep sooner, travel better than travel cots, DS loved his and I can't wait to use it again. It definitely lasts longer than a moses basket although DS was only in his until about 8months

Thanks for all your reassuring messages, I was beginning to think my ability to think clearly was being affected by my hormones btu everything I read about the Amby just made logical sense to me.

I'm going to go for it, just as soon as I go and see one in the flesh.
