Femur measuring 2 weeks behind at 34w scan

Hi all
Hoping for some reassurance. Had my 34w fetal growth scan today and baby’s measurements were perfect except his femur is measuring 2 weeks behind. At the time the radiographer didn’t seem concerned but now the midwife called and told me they want to repeat the scan in 2 weeks and the consultant will review. On the phone she said it could be genetics but both my partner and I are a decent height and my family and his are mainly above 6ft.
Has anyone else been through this and what was the outcome?
Thanks in advance xx

Hi
my son had short femur measurement all the way through and I drove myself mad with worry, googling everything etc. I am 5’3 but my partner is 6’4. I had additional scans due to having high fluid and every time the femur was behind but no one seemed concerned. Anyway baby was born 8.1 and on the 85th percentile for length. Remember the measurements are soooo tiny even a very small inaccuracy will throw it out. I would only be concerned if there were other markers of concern which from your post there seems to not be. I had twins and they were really concerned about femur length for twin A and measured loads throughout pregnancy. (Hers was abnormally long). They were concerned about Twin Bs abdomen. They were both fine and are now teenagers. One is very tall. Try not to worry.

Did they say what else it might be if not just genetics? Are they worried about a particular condition?

I remember freaking out when my baby measured 17th centile for femur and 97th for head circumference. He's 5 now and he is still on the short side and still has a massive head, but it's really not a big deal. We just buy smaller trousers and bigger hats.

Thanks everyone - no they didn’t say anything else they said they won’t really know until they rescan in two weeks which if it’s grown all is fine xx

Yes I did have this. The femur was measuring way behind at 24 and 28 weeks (everything else was on the 40th-50th percentile).

I was referred to fetal medicine and saw a consultant who looked at everything and decided she wasn't too worried. I had already had a NIPT which was negative for T21. I did a lot of research about what could be the matter with him though, and it put a big shadow over the pregnancy.

Anyway he came out fairly dainty and is still on the smaller side now with little legs! But clinically 'normal'. DH and I are tall but not everyone in my family is, and I think that's who he takes after 💙

Just thought I’d add for anyone going through this - my son is now 1 and measuring on the 90th percentile now. Was told he had short femur measurements all the way through.
