Hi,

I am approx 6 weeks 3 days pregnant due to the date of my last regular menstrual period and had slight spotting at the start.

Today I have found bright red blood upon wiping - do I call EPAU? As I haven't had my first antenatal appointment yet or just wait it out?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry you are going through this worry, but bleeding doesn't always mean something is wrong. I think unless you have been to the EPAU before you would need to be referred to them by a GP or by 111. After your booking appointment with the midwives they would be able to refer you. I think if you are having any serious pain at the same time or if the bleeding is very heavy then you would be likely to get a referral but otherwise you would probably be advised to wait and see if the bleeding stops. I hope it turns out that everything is fine.

I would phone your GP and they refer you to the EPAU. It may be nothing but if it isn’t, it’s a few weeks until your midwife appointment usually and would be best to know what’s going on. Best of luck

Depends on your area - for my local hospital you have to get referred by GP, so you could try Gp first. But bleeding is very common and often fine.
