If the test lines get darker/stay dark does that mean your still pregnant?

Hi all. I’m 5w+2d I’ve had my hcg bloods done and they are doubling. I’ve got my scan at 6w+4d on the 6th. My question is, if the tests are still dark and way darker than the control line does that India e there’s still lots of hcg and I’m not miscarrying? If I keep testing and between now and the scan the baby stops growing will the tests get lighter?

last year I was in this position and at 6 weeks the scan showed only a sack with no baby. I didn’t bleed, I had no tummy cramps so was not expecting it at all. I’m so nervous it’ll happen again.

I also have zero symptoms. I wake up and don’t feel pregnant. Occasional (and I mean barley) I’ll have some aches in my boobs and the odd ache in my lower tummy (like a period ache) and that’s it. I feel like I’m going insane. Please can someone give me some advice who’s been in this position? Also, this is an ivf pregnancy. Thanks xx

I felt less pregnant with my successful pregnancy after non successful one. I took it as my frost already knew how to be pregnant so I felt less symptoms.

Well in my experience, every miscarriage I had hcg dropped and my lines got fainter. Like PP with my successful pregnancy I had no symptoms so thought I was miscarrying. Never spent so much on numerous private scans 😅

figgyandpig · 28/07/2024 07:45

@Olika that’s made me feel so much better thank you! I really hope that’s the case for me. 🧡

@Picklesjar20 Thank you so much ☺️ do you think I should keep testing then to see if the lines get lighter? I know it’s not the best but feel like I’d rather know before I have the scan, less of a blow.

Stop doing pregnancy tests! You're reading into something that isn't meant to be used like that.
I've had lots of miscarriages and 2 children, honestly, they all felt up and down, some days no feelings and others feeling bad symptoms
Bloods show HCG is doubling which is good, when is your next scan?
I can't say it's easy going through pregnancy after distresses of losses, BUT just remember no amount of worrying will help either way, (easy said, difficult to do!!)
Good luck and calm down

figgyandpig · 28/07/2024 08:07

@FloofPaws Thanks I probably needed that 😂 I guess I’m scared to see no baby again plus I have no symptoms just makes it feel not real, like someone’s going to say “oh we got it wrong you’re not pregnant after all” 🤦🏽‍♀️

my 6w+4 scan is the 6th august, I can’t wait for it but also dreading it! Weird.

Stop testing! Tests are yes / no for HCG, they’re not for progress. You can only wait and see. My symptoms varied daily with this successful pregnancy.

No don't test anymore. Too many factors, like different time of day, how much you have drank ect, faulty test, different brands. As soon as I had a scan I binned the lot. Caused more distress scrutinising the line and comparing them 😅

Esp when the week calculator said 1-2 at 6 weeks. People were giving their condolences.
But my LO is very much here 😅

@Peonies12 You’re right. Urgh what mind games! Thank you 🧡

@Picklesjar20 yeah you’re right. I’ll leave the tests alone 😂 I’m waiting for somthing to go wrong which is just sad really. Wish I could enjoy being pregnant. Fingers crossed for a heartbeat on the 6th 🧡

You will drive yourself mad comparing tests. Sometimes it's just a different batch of the same test and it comes out a little lighter and then you will worry more. I speak from experience of 4 losses and years of fertility treatment. Step away from the tests. Also, over the years I dread to think how much I spent on tests! I have two dc and didn't really have symptoms with either of them.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 28/07/2024 09:28

Oh bless you. You should start feeling sick pretty soon then you might wish for this stage back.💐

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 28/07/2024 09:34

I had dye stealers 2 days prior to finding out my Baby had stopped developing and didn't have a heartbeat

figgyandpig · 28/07/2024 09:51

@IBegYourBiggestPardon Oh I’m so sorry that happened. I’m absolutely going to stop the testing now. Thank you for sharing xxx

In my opinion unfortunately darkening tests don't mean anything. Yes it may well show you aren't actively about to miscarry. But it won't show a missed miscarriage. I was getting 3+ on clearblue weeks and dye stealers on FRERs and a 7 week scan showed just a sac and fetal pole. Still getting dye stealers 2 weeks later at a rescan where nothing had changed.
I would say stop testing.... but I've just tested positive today after 4 years TTC, 3 IVFs and 1 MMC. I will spend all day telling myself to stop testing. But I can guarantee you I'll do another one tomorrow. Because I think deep down I'd rather at least know early if it's not going to work. I don't know. It's a stupid idea. I really shouldn't. But I probably will.

figgyandpig · 28/07/2024 13:53

@PaperSheet it’s so hard not to isnt but like you said, it dosent really tell us anything. I was thinking it would get lighter if the baby had stopped growing but if you were getting dye stealers still after your scan it makes me wonder if there’s any point at all.
I was thinking I might get hcg bloods on Tuesday but then again, I could still get bad news at my scan. My fertility nurse said to stop testing and no more bloods were necessary and to wait for the scan. I literally have no symptoms what so ever and I’m 5w+2. I think I’d feel more reassured with at least a bit of nausea! Will keep the thread updated.

congratulations on your positive! I really hope everything goes well for you. We’ve been trying for a second for 4.5 years and I’ve had losses too. It’s so hard to be happy knowing what can go wrong. Sending you so much love xx

This is the comment I needed to see! I'm still testing 1-2 weeks when should be 2-3 and now I wish I'd never done the test. My partner said "what if the tests doesn't say what you want it to, can you do anything about it? No? Then don't test" unfortunately he's not always here to be my voice of reason!

Ugh I wish I'd never done weeks test..because of my history everyone was so convinced it was another loss. I had just been prescribed the pill again to give up..

Luckily I did one more at end of week 6, beginning of week 7 before taking the pill and it had jumped to 2-3 😬 I had zero symptoms the whole way through.

In my first pregnancy I had hyperemesis..but never ever ever had a 3+ just 2-3 weeks x

warmbutteredtoast · 28/07/2024 16:44

I agree with the stop testing message, I totally understand it and I was the same but my miscarriages all had dark lines, and with my current pregnancy (14 weeks) I never ever got a 'dye stealer' and baby is doing great! Good luck for this pregnancy!

Oh my god that must have been quite a rollercoaster of emotions!

I took my last weeks indicator test (won't be buying anymore) and it's finally gone to 2-3 at 5 weeks. So I think that's the reassurance I needed to stop testing and leave my little sesame seed alone to do its thing at its own pace!

@CatmumTTC sending you big positive vibes! Xx

Update:

I decided to go to the hospital and do another hcg blood test to check the numbers are doubling & they’ve come back positive. Still doubling plus more which is great.

I literally have no symptoms but the bloods have reassured me until my scan on the 6th.

thanks everyone for the support; so grateful for this community 🧡🧡

I felt pregnant at some point in the beginning and when those symptoms disappeared early on I was sure I was going to mc again. When I went to an early scan at a private clinic all was fine and it helped to relax and move on from that initial fear of things going bad again. I hope your scan next week gives you that peace of mind as well. 🤞🏼💞

Great news! Hopefully you’ll relax a bit.
Honestly a lot of women have absolutely no symptoms at your stage, none whatsoever.
