Hi

I had my 12+5 week scan on Thursday and was told the NT was abnormal at 4.3mm

My bloods were taken and they have fast tracked them so I can get the results on Monday - they have also booked me an anatomy scan for Wednesday.

Can I have some help and advice please? I'm 24 and this is my first pregnancy so everything is 1000 times new to me

I have attached my scan picture of our little bean, you can see the gap where the fluid is behind the babys neck

Thank you

Really sorry but have no advice, just messaging to keep your post near the top so hopefully someone will!

The NT test looks for any potential birth
abnormalities. Please remember that scans (particularly size and weight ) aren’t always accurate which is why they do blood tests to confirm any issues or to show nothing is wrong.

i know you are worried which is natural but these are all standard tests and not all results are issues.

I'm waiting on my blood results to come back on Monday to see if we are high risk or low risk.

I'm praying everything comes back fine🙏🏻✨

Same happened to my nephews partner. A very worrying pregnancy resulted in a perfectly healthy boy who is now a very intelligent five year old.

That's amazing! Praying my blood results come back low risk & the scan on Wednesday doesn't show anything to concerning

4.3mm is larger than average for the NT (I believe anything over about 3.5 is flagged for investigation). However, I’ve heard of much larger measurements that turned out to be nothing of significance. They’ll fast track your blood results and you will likely be offered an amniocentesis or the nipt test (a blood test which gives more accurate screening than the standard NT test - but is not diagnostic) at your detailed scan. Assuming those tests come back clear, you will probably be offered a heart scan in a few weeks, because the enlarged NT can also indicate a heart issue - many of which are minor and treatable - so do try not to worry too much at this point, though I know from experience that is impossible.

At OP I would ask this to be moved to ante natal testing board, you will get more responses

I just want to give you a big hug as I've very very recently gone through this process and, although everything ended up ok for me, the whole process was just totally horrendous, and I spent a week crying everyday waiting for my NIPT results after receiving increased chance NT combined test results - so I really feel for you where you're at. My main advice would be to just be extremely kind on yourself, try and keep yourself busy, and do some nice/treaty things if you can. Waiting for NIPT results was deeply distressing, I felt like I was preparing myself for my world to fall apart, but in the end everything came back as low risk for all 3 triosomys. I am also in my earlier 20s and had no idea about any of this testing.

There's lots more I could say about my experience but I don't want to overshare if not needed, I'll try to answer any questions if you have any, just want you to know you're not alone and theres a very high chance everything will be absolutely fine for you.

I spent most of my waiting week reading mumsnet & reddit posts, which helped a lot. I had bookmarked a seriously helpful post on mumsnet that just explained basic stuff about the way the NT testing works, someone had just done lots of researched and explained things so well - but I can't find it anywhere!! Seems that if you don't follow the thread then you can't find your bookmarked posts - bit of a silly system! If anyone knows the post I'm talking about, please can you share below?

OP, were the bloods you had taken for an NIPT test or for the Combined NT testing? If only at NT combined testing stage and they come back increased chance, try not to panic too much, they're not as accurate as the NIPT test which you'd be offered next. Really feeling for you!!
