Early scan dates help

Hello,

I just wanted some advice to hopefully put my mind at ease. According to my pregnancy app I was 7 weeks 4 days yesterday. I went for my early scan and they confirmed everything was okay and there was a heartbeat - however they said I was measuring at 6 weeks 5 days.

I know the risks of mc are a lot lower once you hit 8 weeks so when the sonographer said I was 6 days less than what I thought, it’s made me worry a little bit. I just was hoping to be at the stage where the risks are more minimal!

Has anyone else had a similar situation and it turned out okay?

Thank you

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yes. I went for an early scan due to bleeding and was told baby was a week too small and no heartbeat so I had to go back 2 weeks later. The baby is now 3. And I went into labour on the due date I had worked out (not the one based on my scan). Babies don’t grown along a linear line, they have growth spurts etc.

It’s absolutely fine at this stage - unless you test with ovulation strips, apps are just broad guesswork. Just 1mm can make a huge difference at this stage. Don’t worry!

Don’t worry. I went for a scan few weeks ago where I know for sure I was 6 weeks 5 days. Sonographer said I was between 5 & 6 weeks, so a week behind really. I am so sure of my dates as I know exactly when I ovulated as I used strips. Went for a scan yesterday at 9 week 4 days and I’m measuring spot on now. :)

Ah thank you all so much for your responses!

@Kt1704 i know when I ovulated as well as I also used the tests. When I said I thought I was 7 weeks 4 days I was just going based on my lmp from Flo. If I know the date I ovulated, do you technically count that as day 1? Sorry it’s just all so confusing to me! 🙈

I had the exact similar to you op. Same dates and same first measurement. I have a history of mc and ectopics and was terrified and resigned myself to another mc.

Went for my nhs self referral scan (due to history) a week later and was measured 4 days ahead of my calculations. Dates were then adjusted again at the 12 week scan making the baby a week and a bit earlier than the 8 ish week scan.

Baby was born at 37 weeks - 2 weeks before my calculations and just 3 weeks earlier than the official dating scan.

There's a circa plus/minus 20% inaccuracy with scans. I had many due to being high risk with a small baby. Every scan after 24 weeks and there was one every other week and then every week leading up to delivery I would be told that the measurements could be off especially if not seeing the sane technician, baby's position etc.

It's not always something to worry about

I had this 4 ish weeks ago! Went for a scan at what I thought was 7+6, measured 6+5. Worried a ton! Thought carefully about my dates and decided it was possible I ovulated a few days late. Went for a scan on Thursday and I'm now 11+1, so exactly where I should be if the 6+5 was correct if that makes sense. Everything seems fine!

The day after ovulation is 1dpo. What date did you ovulate?

LOB1993 · 26/07/2024 20:12

@darkmode1 my last period started 2nd June and I had my positive ovulation test on 17th June

So by ovulation you’re 7+3 today. But I really wouldn’t worry - implantation can vary by a couple of days and the measurements are soooo tiny right now. The main thing is there’s a heartbeat! ☺️

Kt1704 · 26/07/2024 21:07

Exactly as everyone said I wouldn’t worry so much if the days are a bit off this early.. the same just happened to me and I wasn’t too worried. The scan yesterday proved my dates was right

LOB1993 · 26/07/2024 21:14

Thank you everyone. I know I just need to concentrate on the fact there’s a heartbeat which i know is a huge positive. It seems like the worry just never stops 😂😭

Hi OP, I’m sorry to dig up an old thread but I’m just wondering how this turned out for you? Currently in the same boat and so worried.

Hello I’m so sorry I didn’t see that you had replied to this thread. I’m currently sat here with my healthy 9 month old baby girl! All was fine - I really hope the same for you too ❤️

I’m really glad it was a positive outcome for you. I unfortunately miscarried. X
