Babyshowers! Has anyone had one, how, where, what and any other info please!

I'm preggers with my 1st baby and would love to hear from anyone who may have had or is thinking of having an all american style babyshower!

What did you do?, who did you invite? and any tips please!

I'm thinking about it myself so would really appreciate your words of wisdom MNers!

I went to one at a friends house (not mum to be's house)where there was a lady there to pamper mum and a few close friends with massage/pedicure/manicure etc. (each individually paid for own)we all chipped in for mum 2 be. No presents but a few snacks, games and lots of chat! Was really nice!

I have just been trying to up load some of my baby shower pics but am crap at it as I can't seem to do it, keep losing my internet connection.

So if you have a baby shower do people still buy you gifts when the baby is born? I have never had or been to a shower, but I always buy a very nice gift when a friend's baby is born. In places where showers are common, do people buy both times? (bit steep)!

Mine was organised by one of (non-British) girls at work who was quite keen and organised games etc. TBH I was ambivalent (and a bit superstitious about counting chickens), but in the event it doubled up as a nice leaving-do and invited along some old work colleagues too. People who came to this were less likely to be home visitors after the birth, so there was no real overlap in gifting. A few thoughtful people asked me what I wanted, so as not to double-up on things I'd already bought myself.
