Hi all,

We've just found out that we are expecting baby number 2, we are absolutely over the moon and super excited to see our little boy (who will be 3 years and 5/6 months when baby arrives) become a big brother! 2 things...

The first one is in my first pregnancy I really suffered with HG until I turned 16 weeks, I was in and out of hospital on drips, throwing up blood, had 3 different anti sickness tablets, nothing worked! My question is does anyone who had a difficult first pregnancy have any stories of an easier 2nd pregnancy? Or do I need to expect that this one will be no different, maybe even worse?

The second thing is the age gap, we haven't told our little one yet (waiting until 12 week scan) but he is amazing and super clever for his age but he can be a handful, in the best way! Does anyone have a similar age gap and could put my mind at ease? 😊

I had HG the first time round throughout my entire pregnancy, and I've had it again this time round and I won't lie it's been (somehow) much worse. I have known people to be okay though - but just prepare yourself for either outcome - as if you get it again you will need help to look after your first born. I've been bed bound and also had to rely heavily on family members and husband to sort DS whilst I've been in hospital - such as taking and fetching him from nursery

Our age gap will be 4 years 4 months, so a little more than yours - we told him once our blood results came back from the dating scan and he has been so excited since. He doesn't stop talking about his baby sister and changes our countdown each week on how many weeks it is until she's here.

18 weeks into my second hg pregnancy with a 3yo

Go organise your medication now, don't wait until you start being sick

Make sure you have lots of help in place ready, so I started sending my DD 4/5 days to preschool and had my mum really help me

I've still been in hospital once but doubled up my medication and feeling much better now

Hi OP, sorry to hear you had bad sickness last time but big congrats you are pregnant with baby no2!

I have a 3.5 year gap, and DC2 is now 13 months, I have to say I think it's a great gap and I feel like I have completed our little family now.

Anyway.. sorry to say my sickness was about the same second time round, I didn't have it quite as bad as you but still bad enough to be off sick from work etc. so I think possible it can be the same as the first time.

Really hope you are lucky and it's more mild for you, but just think you've done it before and lived to tell the tale so you can do it again if you need to.

It's something like 80% reoccurring and Pregnancy Sickness Support do say starting medication before the fact can really make a difference to hospital admissions

Thank you all, we're over the moon! We don't have a great deal of family support, my mam lives an hour away and my partners mam works full time but I'm sure people will help as much as they can and our little one goes to preschool twice a week! I did the referral for my first midwife booking in appt this morning so will get on to the doctors in the morning to try and get ahead of it and get the medication ahead of time 😊

I had ICP in first pregnancy. And was so worried second time around but have avoided it this time which has been a relief. I am 40weeks with DS2 and waiting for baby to arrive.
DS2 is 2.5 and we told him right away. We already discussed siblings months prior and he was excited. He caught on right away he just turned 2. And was giving belly kisses and cuddles and he talks to baby brother all the time. He is now askong for him.to hurry up and come out so they can play and be friends. It is so sweet. I will have 2 under 3 which I wanted as DS is more independent, potty trained (not at night) and loves to do help out and he is excites to help with DS2.
We even allowed him to pick a few names and added to potential list.

We followed all the advice from the start, get him involved, keep him involved. Talk to him about the baby , the realities and expectations and what life will be like. We talk every day and he has a good understanding of what is to come. We read books about newborns and siblings etc. We have peg dolla to do roll play with about fammilies and babies and new siblings. I reslly covered everything with him.
Last few days/week.amd he has mixed emotions now. He is excited but he is also worried about sharing us and grandparents. I sm teying to reassure him the best I can.

My sil had HG badly the first pregnancy. She's pregnant again and only had mild morning sickness for a few weeks and now nothing.

Aww congratulations that's so sweet! Our little boy has taken a lot of interest in having a sibling as his cousin who he is very close to has a baby sister, so he now wants a baby sister. We're waiting until we've had our 12 week scan to tell him just to make sure we're in the clear and so we have a picture to show him but your story has made me even more excited to tell him!

I've had the odd bout of sickness and feeling nauseous a lot of the time but it seems to pass so I'm really hoping this time isn't so bad!!

Good luck with everything and I hope your new addition makes his arrival soon :)

That's really encouraging thank you!! I've been sick a couple of times but other than that it's just nausea that passes so far so fingers crossed!
