Irish boys names - Ronan or Fintan?

Husband and I are on the fence with boys names - have always loved Ronan (it’s also a family name) but recently have started to consider Fintan. Husband is leaning towards Fintan.

Any advice on deciding would be appreciated!

I love both and they would travel well. I would lean towards Fintan due to the popularity of Rowan which is close to Ronan but that's just personal opinion!

Fintan is a name I expect to see the word "uncle" in front of, because I know older ones. Uk has a big old man name revival though, so no reason not to. I prefer Ronan.

I love fintan. And Finbar.

I love Fintan! Ronan also a nice name, but really love Fintan

Fintan is an "older guy" name, although perfectly nice. Ronan got a bit overused and might be seen as down-market (if you care about that).

I like Fintan. Ronan OK though. I like Finbar and Declan better.

Personally, I prefer the Irish spelling and prononciation Fiontán to Fintan. Like others, I think of Fintan as an older person name.

I'm not a major fan of the anglicised Ronan or the Irish Ronán (pronounced with an awn ending).

However, if you like either, then go with it. Both names are perfectly normal boys' names that would be fine.
