10 week scan worry

Hello everyone,

I’ve never posted on Mumsnet before but am looking for some reassurance/a handhold/similar experiences.

After experiencing some spotting at the weekend, I had a viability scan at the EPU. The found heartbeat via abdominal scan so I thought all was well and was relieved just to see the heartbeat. However, they then noticed that baby had what they described as a protruding forehead (which was very bright on the scan) and they said that it looked like there was a gap in the forehead.

They switched to an internal scan and baby looked ‘normal’ (for want of a better word) with no issues. They said that I could have been an artifact/ultrasound waves bouncing around strangely but that they still wanted to send it to the antenatal clinic for review.

I got a phone call later on in the day where they said that the ANC team had said that it was too early to assess and that I need to wait until my 12 week scan next Friday.

Obviously i’m now super worried that there’s something seriously wrong with our baby despite the unremarkable internal scan.

has anyone else had something like this where the and scan showed something weird but the internal scan was fine? Really scared

thanks!
