Desperate need of reassurance

Had a growth scan this afternoon with Foetal Medicine and our 3rd centile baby hasn't grown as expected. He's now just below the 3rd centile. His head and BPD are ok, but his femur and abdomen are tiny, meaning his estimated weight is also tiny.

We've gone from 18th centile on the population growth chart to 8th in 2 weeks. And under the 3rd centile on my personal growth chart as mentioned above.

The consultant we saw didn't seem too worried, which I didn't actually find reassuring, just odd. She said structurally everything seems fine, but of course they can't rule out genetic abnormalities via scan.

I'm actually sick with worry. My first baby was a healthy weight.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any knowledge? I know that 3rd centile and under is severe growth restriction. Just want to sob.

How many weeks are you now? As earlier in the pregnancy is harder to measure.

Oh, that is worrying. But you say they weren’t concerned? I don’t have personal experience, so can’t help there, but don’t want you to be stressed! Hopefully someone will have a reassuring experience to share with you. I’m guessing you’re booked in for another growth scan soon?

Oh bless you, it is definitely a concern when growth is flagged.
My first born was growth restricted due to pre eclampsia and she wasn’t on the percentile chart. She was born at 33+6 weighing 3lb 8oz and although tiny, she is absolutely perfect. She’s now almost 8 and you’d never tell she was early or such a tiny baby.

They’ll probably want to induce you early depending on your next growth scan, wishing you all the best
