Second pregnancy , I'm end of second trimester and I'm so tired all the time. I've been so tired all the way through, I get out of breath just going up one flight of stairs as though I've been running. I was quite fit before this pregnancy running a few times a week and now I can barely walk the dog round the block. I feel like this can't be normal ! Does anyone else have this? I don't remember feel quite like this with my first and I'm beginning to worry something is wrong with me !

Hi - sorry to not be more helpful but I’m the same. Second pregnancy, so much more tired than first. Think it’s a combo of looking after toddler/being a couple of years older etc. didn’t help that the bump and boobs appeared way before they did first time round, which feels like they’re slowing me down! Only thing I can offer is solidarity - I’m a couple of weeks ahead of you, so the end is in sight 🤞🏻

I think it can be normal, I was way more tired with my second pregnancy. Might be worth checking your iron if you haven’t already?

SPsmama · 17/07/2024 12:37

I was like this around 21/22 weeks into my second pregnancy, first baby is 2.5 now and running me ragged.

Have you had a full iron profile done? I asked my GP to do one and it turned out my ferritin was at the lower end of normal but my iron levels (Hb) were fine. My midwife had only checked my Hb so I was told everything was normal! I started taking the Spatone sachets but I've been on ferrous fumerate since 36w and feeling alot better, still tired as I'm 39w now but definitely noticing a difference.

Pregnancy with a toddler is not for the faint hearted! 😴

Only on my first pregnancy and feel the same. My iron levels are fine. Just.Exhausted.

Although the total lack of sleep partly explains it in my case. First 12 weeks, couldn't sleep because of nausea and pregnancy insomnia. Second trimester got a bit better then got PGP half way and was so uncomfortable. Week 29 I got cholestatis itch and have been itching non stop since. I've averaged 3.5 hrs of sleep per night since January.

Have you had you iron and haemoglobin levels checked ?

Outliers · 17/07/2024 14:26

@blipblopblip could be your iron levels aren't high enough for your body.

Buy spatone (apple flavour) and take a couple times a day, should feel difference in a week.

Another one coming here to say I'm the same with my second pregnancy. Currently 28 weeks and for around 4 weeks now I struggle going upstairs especially when holding DS (20 months)
I think it's not being able to rest when you want this time and having a toddler alarm clock. I lose count of the amount of times I have to bend bend down to pick up food/toys/crumbs/the actual toddler. Got to take it's toll.
I miss my first pregnancy
when I was tired I would rest or sleep. Can only dream of that now ay.
Roll on the sleepless newborn nights instead I guess? 😊

Thank you all, glad to know it's not just me. I will get the midwife to check my iron at the next appointment.
