Worried about infections - early pregnancy (TMI alert)

Hello,

So I am 9 weeks pregnant and have been worried that I have a prolapse (entirely different story). Ever so often I 'check' myself up there and always wash my hands. Today however, after straining, I accidentally put my finger inside my vagina too far and touched my cervix.

It's only after doing this that I realised that I hadn't washed my hands for a few hours.

I'm now terrified I have given myself an infection.

Any reassurence greatly appreciated
X

@AOMum14 I just wanted to reach out to say I was exactly like this in my pregnancy until very recently and have had the same panic multiple times. Post loss pregnancy is hideous.

It's unlikely you have given yourself an infection, but I would advise trying to get out of the habit of self checking as fast as you can. It's a horrible way to live! And, of course, there is always that minor increased risk if you keep doing it. I say that very gently as I am struggling to stop the behavior myself (16 weeks).

Your vagina does a good job at keeping itself in balance and your cervix is there to prevent infection. For fears of prolapse, could you let your GP know and see if they will do a gentle cervical check to reassure you?

You will be absolutely fine, sex and masturbation are fine in pregnancy, and as above, vaginas are very good at self cleaning! Please don't worry about this x

Your cervix is clamped shut during pregnancy and there is a thick protective mucus plug in the cervical canal. You will be fine.
