She might be facing towards your back so you don't feel her moving, your placenta might be on the outside of your bump (so blocking sensation) or she might just be a very chilled baby. She'll probably wake up soon and keep you awake at night hicupping and kicking like crazy!

daisy26 · 11/04/2008 21:14

yeh maybe ill be speaking too soon and she suddenly start moving around-when I ahd my scan tuesday she was laying on her back-and do you know-i am goin to the loo allot again, after like 2-3 minutes of just going

Daisy -you may not be recognising the movement. Try lying on your side, taking four big deep breaths and keeping still. Preferably after drinking a very cold glass of something fizzy.

Or it may well be because of where the placenta is as laurz75 has said.

I didn't feel DS1 move until about 24 weeks and then he started really thumping so either I didn't recognise the movements as the baby or he was playing possum. Felt DS2and3 much earlier.

daisy is this your first ?
If so something cold usually helps. Can feel like butterflys at first or trapped wind.

pinkspottywellies · 11/04/2008 21:35

I got to 22 weeks and hadn't felt anything. Midwife told me to lie down quietly - allow a good hour or so - and have a really cold drink. I hadn't realised that actually I never just sat and did nothing and was horrified at the thought of lying down for an hour Within about 5 mins I felt her kicking!

daisy26 · 11/04/2008 21:36

Yeh it is my 1st-I tried a few times just laying still and seein if i could feel anything-maybe ill try that something cold see if she moves-maybe she is just chilling for time being and ill soon know she's there {smile} yes my friends have said she may have moved already but your not aware or it

If you eat an ice lolly or lean forwards when sat down so you squish the bump a bit you might feel something. I couldn't feel ds1 until 25wks which is pretty late, and dd2 by 23 weeks.

CathyJo · 11/04/2008 21:52

I went for my 20 wk scan and it took them for ever to get their measurements because the baby was moving so much, but I didn't feel anything until about 24/25 wks and only regular movements from about 27. Someone also told me it can depend on how much fat you have as well as to how easy it is to feel.

minouminou · 11/04/2008 23:21

if it's your 1st and you've got good abs, you may well not feel anything till later on
also, the placenta being forwards, as said, will cushion your abs from the movement
the sensation is felt in these muscles, not your uterine muscle

jem1969 · 12/04/2008 13:07

With my DD I didn't feel anything at all until at least 21/22 weeks, more I think. Can't remember exactly when I first felt her but def after the 20 week scan because, like CathyJo, the scan took ages because she was moving so much but I still couldn't feel anything. They told me I had an anterior placenta and that was probably why. I had a huge bump and was fairly slim usually (but def not strong abs!). Her favourite time for thrashing around was always about 1 in the morning. Maybe I was asleep at that time until she got too big to ignore and always woke me up?! She's now 8 months and still always on the go

daisy26 · 12/04/2008 14:22

oh I am not a slim person but im not really big either definately don't have good abs hehe-I am eating allot of junk lately tho so I prob am putting on the pounds

im 19 weeks with my 2nd and i am worried as i havent felt her move yet,i went for a private scan 3 weeks ago to find out the sex and she is a girl, i already have a 2 yr old boy and i felt him move really early, thats y i panicing as i have had a mmc in the past at 13 weeks aswelll.my family all tellin me not to worrie as shes a lazy girl.i lay there for hours on my bk with my hands on my belly and still cant feel her.wen i went for private scan they did say that she was lookin up at my placenta,so ive jus read and sumone did mention that the placenta cou be above baby so thats cushionin the movements. i hope so , goin for my 21 week scan nhs on 2 may

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 20/04/2008 10:21

I'm exactly same as you steph - felt it moving here and there but as soon as it goes quiet for a day I panic! After mmc it's only natural. Got my 21 wk scan on 1st may so I'm sure we are both fine! xxx
