Midwife or Doctor - who do I see?

This is maybe a silly question but this is my first pregnancy and I’m 15 weeks. The last few days I’ve had a pain in left rib, sort of where your bra band sits under your breast. I’m pretty sure it’s not pregnancy related but I just wondered….because I’m pregnant should I always refer to the midwife first or can I call a doctor first instead?

Check your notes or speak to triage, but most maternity units will only let you self refer after 16 weeks.
i would suggest the doctor.

Sounds like something to call the GP about on Monday

RagzRebooted · 13/07/2024 22:07

GP for medical issues in pregnancy, the midwife can't diagnose you really and it's not necessarily pregnancy related.

It sound exactly like my heartburn, is it worth trying a heartbeat liquid first? But otherwise GP

UpUpUpU · 14/07/2024 07:57

GP first. If they can’t see you then maternity triage

15 weeks is a bit early but there is a thing called costal margin pain, I remember it well, very sore.

Thanks all. I think it’s probably just muscle pain from awfully posture but I was just feeling confused if maybe doctors just want nothing to do with pregnant ladies 😂

Midwife would direct you back to Gp

Muscles relax due to hormone Relaxin already yes. And can cause pain and discomfort. Sounds like intracoastal muscle pain and the diaghram can also be affected.
I would bring it up at your 16 week apt. You should have one then for bloods etc if youe in the UK.
