I was very bloated in my first trimester and had to stop wearing jeans at 8 weeks!! but maternity shorts/trousers were too big until 20 weeks or so. I went for a lot of dresses, I can't stand anything rubbing against my belly anyway.

I was so bloated in first trimester I couldn’t wear my jeans, but then that went away and I started properly showing around 22 weeks I think? Maternity jeans only fit me around that point, before that i just wore loose dresses or dungarees

RosiePH · 14/07/2024 09:15

I don’t think I looked recognisably pregnant until about 24 weeks (first baby and I’m usually a size 10). I definitely looked bigger, and needed maternity jeans from about 14 weeks. But I just looked like I’d gained weight around the middle tbh. It wasn’t noticeably bump shape!

I’ve got quite a long abdomen and had been doing Pilates for a while before getting pregnant, so I think my core was keeping the bump tucked in.

I was bloated 1st trimester, then normal til about 22 weeks noticed some waistbands weren't fitting. But I wore a lot of dresses and leggings anyway.

cloudy477654 · 14/07/2024 09:49

I just started wearing looser fitting clothes to begin with or tops a size bigger than normal.
I needed maternity trousers from about 14 weeks.
By the final trimester all I could stand to wear were dresses or tunics and leggings

Katherina198819 · 14/07/2024 10:30

I started to wear maternity clothes from 8 weeks with both of my pregnancies - I couldn't fit into any of my trausers due bloating.
It's really depends on your body type when you show. With my first time, I had a tiny bump from 18 weeks, but it looked like I had a big meal. I didn't look pregnant until 30 weeks.
With my second (everyone told me I will show early), didn't look pregnant until 26 weeks.

Earlier on, I found floaty dresses best. Too bloated for anything else.

Towards the middle of the second trimester you can get away with wearing tight dresses and everyone compliments you on your bump.

And in the third trimester, when you are massive, stick to tight dresses or leggings and tops, NOT massive floaty flowery dresses as you'll look as big as a tank lol.

Also, don't be too harsh on yourself. I also found the weight gain very difficult to deal with, especially in the first 20 weeks. Be prepared for lots of people to comment on your looks - everyone will say positive things but it will remind you that everyone is checking you out and has an opinion.

Every pregnant woman goes through it and we all hate it. But it's part and parcel of it and when he/she starts kicking you, you'll think it's the best thing ever and get over it ❤

OMGsamesame · 14/07/2024 16:02

Think about stuff you'll want to wear postpartum as well. 3rd trimester goes so quickly.
