Mucus plug or not?

Hi, I haven't posted before so hopefully doing this in the right place! I have just lost this amount of gunk (see pic), 39 + 4 weeks, getting very mild cramping, and live 45 mins from hospital so don't really want to go in to show midwives, I have googled mucus plug photos but none look like this, could it be mucus plug still? I haven't really had much discharge at all for a few days, and had a sweep 3 days ago.

Hmm it looks more paste like than mine did. Mine was like snot and egg white mixed together. Does it smell bad? If it does I'd call triage as could be a sign of infection. Your mucus plug doesn't mean that much in terms of labour starting - you want to keep an eye for your bloody show which is basically a load of mucus with blood in too.

Carajade8 · 13/07/2024 13:16

Yeah I didn't expect it to look so thick and paste like. No smell to it and had no more since it happened a few hours ago. But getting a lot of period cramps despite a bath and lying down. Had niggles and pains on and off for weeks but this feels more like something actually happening. it's my third baby but 7 years since my second and had them with induction so this is all new.

That do want look at all like Mucas plug. After the sweep did you leak any AF?
It looks too dark to be Bloody show.

I know it is 45mins but could you check with Midwife on the phone. It could be Meconian staining.

I lost my MP at 39weeks.and it was jelly like aemi opaque with a sploch of dark red blood.

Would that meconium only happen if waters have gone though?

I lost my plug after a sweep and it was full of dark blood.

Yes. But if it's a slow leak (with the baby's head acting like a plug) it's possible to just feel continuously damp rather than gushing. Have things progressed for you yet @Carajade8?

skamama · 13/07/2024 19:04

I would call the midwife just incase, have you been diagnosed with strep b? Xx

Heavenssakes · 13/07/2024 19:22

I'm echoing, looks nothing like any of my plugs.
Please contact your midwife, Tonight,: better you do this , and it's all fine,(which it may well be) than you'd needed to , and didn't seek help.

Something's going on, and it's your job to find out what.

Carajade8 · 13/07/2024 19:32

Had no dampness or waters leak that I've noticed, have been checking regularly for that..
@skamama I have strep B yes, carried in the last two pregnancies also, had Iv antibiotics for one and not the other, cant remember why.

I remember my midwife telling me when I asked how I would know if i had strep b. She told me that discharge would be green if there's a strep b infection which made me wonder if it was that. You might need some anti biotics. When my little one pooed in the sack (I've no idea how to spell the proper way of saying it). It was like a swamp green. Buuut that being said I would absolutely get this double checked by a midwife because it doesn't really look like a mucus plug and green tends to be a colour of infection. Xx

polkadotorganisedchaod · 13/07/2024 19:38

Mine was like blood streaked clear jelly. I'd ring now if I were you. That looks like it might be infection of some sort

skamama · 13/07/2024 21:16

I'm hoping op is in the hospital safe 🙏

Carajade8 · 14/07/2024 10:45

I spoke to the assessment unit and they're happy that it's a show, more of a beige than a green just the camera light makes it look a bit greenish.. if there's been yeast or thick discharge around there it can all drop out together with the plug apparently. Still crampy but nothing major so they want me to carry on as normal unless baby slows down or waters go.

Did they send off a swab?

Did they send off a swab?

Fingers crossed.

Did they examine you or was this all done over the phone? Hope all is going ok!

Carajade8 · 14/07/2024 16:41

They didn't want me to go in, said because I've been dry/discharge free since that dropped out, and baby still strong and busy, that its not a concern. But obviously if I notice any dampness that could be waters etc to ring back.
Sorry takes me a while to reply this is why I don't often post online as I forget to go back on! 39 + 5 with hopefully not much waiting to do as this is driving me mad, nothing at all happened before previous inductions, this waiting feels like an overthinkers worst nightmare lol

Aww, good luck with it all. I remember going into labour after my sweep it was a proper slow labour. It sounds similar to mine. Hope your little one is here soon and you can relax.

Yes but you can have a upper sac break as well which doesn't pop and gush! It will be very slow and sometimes not noticeable.

I hope all is ok. Do get in touch with the Midwofe again.

Hate seeing threads like this and no updates, so thought I'd add to it today.
Baby still totally fine, had a night of tummy upset and period pains the night before last, got all excited then it stopped. Been for midwife check today and second sweep at 40+1. Seems like forever with all these false starts!
