Anyone had unmedicated natural birth despite gestational diabetes diagnosis?

Has anyone here been told they had GD and offered interventions or denied their birth wishes but persevered and had a natural birth, at MLU or at home?

A bit about me - my baby and I, fit and healthy with good hemoglobin levels, have had no other "complications" so far, my fundal height was perfect at 25 weeks midwife appt, and I've put on 6kg.
Because of my mum's type 2 diabetes, I was offered to screen for GD.
Being skeptical of the OGT drink and its additives, I initially opted for self testing blood sugars. There were occasional spikes (over 7.7mmol up to 9.9!) and the consultant's conclusion was to treat me as though I had GD.
I have no problem controlling diet and lifestyle, but I don't want to be limited my choice of modes of birth so I've requested to do an OGT after all to rule it out once for all, but of course, after seeing those elevated levels after meal, the prospect of the hard diagnosis is making me more anxious.

Thanks!

Following along to see others experience. I had gd with ds and was told that I could have a natural, unmedicated birth but then my resting sugars were too high overnight (totally out of my control) and when I had to go on insulin that changed a lot of what I was allowed.

I had GD just diet controlled. My waters broke early and I was left a couple of days but didn't go into full labour so I was induced but it was nothing to do with GD. No one said I'd have to be induced or anything, maybe because I wasn't on medication? When I said to the mifwife I wanted a water birth she was a bit funny about it and said she'd check my notes but in the end I couldn't be bothered moving rooms! If I had pushed for it I'm sure it would've been fine. They can't deny you the birth you want unless it's going to be really dangerous for you and baby but if you speak to them about the possibility of a home birth etc and a plan is in place I can't see there being any issues. Definitely advocate for yourself.

Yes.
GD here, controlled by low carbing diet.
Baby was 7.12 iirc - completely natural birth
I did regret that enormously I have to admit Grin
I'd had vacuum births (ventouse) before following epidurals but decided to do it without for my third. Big mistake. Huge.
The only difference the GD made was my baby was born with fluctuating blood sugar levels so although I was breastfeeding, they did top him up a couple of times until he stabilised.

I had GD but unfortunately also ended up with preeclampsia, I was able to control my sugars really well with diet but my fasting levels were always high so ended up on metformin 500mg twice a day, unfortunately with GD there is a higher risk with the placenta deteriorating and obviously babies weight the hospital were willing to let me go to 39 weeks but because of my preeclampsia ended up being induced at 38 weeks, it was actually very positive. Labour was very fast in the end but baby was absolutely fine and weighed 6lb 10oz and I delivered on gas and air so apart from being induced it was as natural as it could be , I've no regrets.

I had gestational diabetes controlled by diet. My sugar levels were pretty stable and I was encouraged to wait for labour to start naturally, which it did at 40+5. I had a non medicated, very fast waterbirth with absolutely no issues. I did have extra monitoring from 32 weeks though.

I was diagnosed with diabetes (T1) during my first pregnancy. My sugars were so bad I was hospitalised and on an insulin drip for three days. Was obv put on high dose insulin and Metformin immediately. My daughter arrived spontanously 10 weeks later and whilst I had wanted a medicated birth she had other ideas and arrived too Fast so was unmedicated.

Currently 36 weeks pregnant and they're talking about inducing me just before 39 weeks as my sugar control is good. But no push for any other meds and they said I'm likely to go earlier given my history anyway
