Suspected Thrush at 35w

Hi,

Just want abit of advice as I can't get in touch with my midwife or GP.

As the title states, I'm 35 weeks pregnant and have what I believe is thrush. Since yesterday my down below is red, irritated and really sore to the touch, with white discharge.

Looking online it says I need to speak to a medical professional before using any products but its proving impossible to get any other advice. At my appointment last week they said baby is starting to engage and they are planning a sweep at my 37 week appointment, so I really don't want to leave this any longer as I've read thrush can be passed on to baby during labour.

Can I just buy a OTC canesten duo pack? Are you allowed to use the pessaries in pregnancy, especially at the later stage? If not which one is best to get?

My Dr said over the counter canesten is fine to use as long as you've used it before (in case of an allergic reaction) and I've used it in both pregnancies and been fine, I've only used the external cream as not a fan of pessaries

I recently had to buy the pessery/cream pack on the shelf as pharmacy wouldn't sell me the cream on its own and I couldn't get a GP appointment, I've used it before though in pregnancy so I knew it was the same one they would prescribe me anyway 🙄

I was advised to use the canesten cream and pessary when I had thrush during pregnancy, the midwife just told me to insert the pessary with a finger rather than the applicator to ensure it doesn’t go too far up. I believe it’s just the oral tablets you should avoid.

Sometimes you need a course of pessaries for thrush in pregnancy. Insert with your finger instead of the applicator.
