Thrush treatment

So last week I was given a prescription for a thrush pessary and cream from my doc and handed it into my local boots pharmacy. She scanned around the shop and says they didn’t have it in stock and would order it in and would be in the following day. Went back she says it would be ready for Monday so was left all weekend without treatment! To go back again and they says oh it hasn’t come in yet, but I noticed the Canesten brand behind the counter “pessary and cream” that was on my prescription so I says that’s it there what I’ve to get. (Having been given it before from a previous pharmacy as I’m prone in pregnancy) the boots lady told me no that’s not the brand my doctor wants me to have. I asked and what brand is it my doc wants me to have? She told me “it doesn’t state what brand but it won’t be canesten”. They clearly didn’t want to give me it on prescription to the price being 15.99. I took my prescription to another chemist and they gave me the canesten brand with no issue saying it’s the only brand really. So boots left a pregnant lady without a prescription they actually had in store due to price of the brand as they didn’t want to give me it. Is this a pharmacy rule or a boots rule?

I’m not sure it’s a rule but it is something I would put a complaint in with boots about. I’m not one to complain but the fact they’ve knowingly left you in pain all weekend when they could have given you what you needed sooner is wrong.
Whenever a pharmacy doesn’t have my medicine In stock, they offer to give me my prescription back so I can try elsewhere, did they offer this?

They told me twice to come back as wasn’t in stock but today offered me my prescription back so I said yes as it had been from before the weekend (around 3 days) I then pointed out they had it in stock the one I needed behind the counter and was told oh no it won’t be canesten that’s not the brand they want you to have. I says so what brand do they want? She says I’m not sure but it won’t be that. So I left went to another pharmacy and they gave me the canesten one without me even mentioning anything. I’m not one to complain either but I feel I should about this as others will go in with the same problem and be told the same when in fact they don’t actually stock the pessary and cream in another brand.

Yeah I agree what they did was wrong! They could have helped you far sooner and for them to ask you to return twice before offering your prescription back isn’t great either. Feel like the staff could do with a refresh in training so I would contact boots to let them know of your experience.

That's not on, I've worked in a pharmacy before and if the prescription doesn't state a brand then they should just give you whatever is in stock, the price isn't coming out of her pocket! I've also had thrush in pregnancy recently and I made sure I got a prescription that day as I was so sore and uncomfortable, you must of been in so much discomfort to have been left for days just because she didn't want to give you cannesten 😩
