Does anyone else just pile on the pounds at the slightest hint of pregnancy??

Because I do.

I am normally I size 12 and have no trouble maintaining that weight. Then I get pregnant and it all goes haywire. With DD I gained a stone in my first trimester and 5.5 tone overall . Probably as a result I got high BP and pre-eclampsia.

This time I am only 5 weeks pregnant and am determined not to bulge like last time. At 5 weeks I have no reason to start gaining weight, but I have. I am already three pounds heavier then normal despite the fact that I know I am eating well and swimming three times a week.

Am I the only one whose body reacts to pregnancy as it is was a threatened famine and just stores ALL the fat it can?

I put on 4 stone in my first pregnancy. I'm 6 wks pregnant and already feel bigger - my size 14 jeans which are normally loose-ish (I'm that in betweeny, 12-14 size) feel tight. I think I'm definitely a fat-storer!

I do the same - put weight on immediately. Have put on 4 stone each time (usually size 8-10), and am heading that way this time too! Have lost it again the previous times so hope the same happens after this one!

Well in a way it is comforting that I am not the only one, but on the other hand it is a little despressing that it may just be that some people are just designed to be fat when pregnant. I really hoped this would be something I could control this time but maybe it just isn't .

Yes - I spent all last year losing excess baby weight only to put on nearly a stone in my first trimester. This was despite feeling sick constantly - in fact the only cure was to eat toast every two hours.

I'm the same, a right little bloater in pregnany! I put on 4.5 stone all in all with DS and lost it and an extra stone in 15 months (gloat emotion) but then I found out I was 'up the duff' again, and I'm now 26 weeks and have put on 2 stone! I was determined not to put on alot of weight, but the fat just clings to me!

At least I know I can get rid of it after! I'm just so hungry all the time, and chocolate is just so nice!!! [wink} I keep repeating the mantra, happy mum, happy baby!!!

So glad I'm not alone!! I think I was around 10.5 stone when I got married in October. My 13 week scan I weighed in at 76 kilos then my 26 week check I was 82 kilos...13 stone!!! So I've already put on 2 stone and am only just in my 3rd trimester, no stretch marks yet but God almighty, how much can I expect to gain in the last phase? It's not as if I'm sitting at home eating pies and cake, I do aqua fit, yoga, cycling, walk for miles every week (albeit slower than usual now!!) This is my first baby and I feel like a weeble, can I breast feed it all away quickly?

zazen · 11/04/2008 11:36

I've put on a pound or two by reading this post - seriously I can't even look at the word pregnancy.

flossish · 11/04/2008 11:37

yes, i do! and then never loose it again...

artichokes · 11/04/2008 12:32

Lol Zazen, your just like me then .

Gilly - I did manage to lose it all last time. It took 7ish months. At first BFing didn't seem to make much difference but as DD got bigger and hungrier she ate more and more and I eventually got to below by pre-preg weight even though I was going for coffee and cakes EVERY day .

I just hope I can lose it all again as easily after this one is born.

I'm living in hope that it comes off as easy this time as I have a toddler to run around after so have to stay active (ish)....

FairyBasslet · 11/04/2008 21:56

I react this way as well, and what's more my body still thinks there's a famine after baby is here and I'm breast feeding - I never lose all the weight until after I've finished no matter how hard I try.

I'm currently 10 weeks with DC3 and just don't bother weighing myself as it would just send me into despair. Doesn't help that the only way I seem to be able to cope with the constant nausea is to eat quite a bit (mainly carbs strangely which I don't tend to eat much when not pregnant) plus my normal exercise regime is out the window due to feeling exhausted - I hope to resume in a couple of weeks time when things have calmed a bit - at least I can try to tone up my legs, arms etc a bit and just forget about the weight.

Ah well, I best get used to feeling like a beached whale for the foreseeable future

Congratulations Fairybasset, Hope you feel better soon xx

Sorry to upset you ladies, but i'm so pleased something positve has come from a horrible pregnancy other than my immient arrival (due 1st May) but i was 20+ stone when fell pregnant and have had horrendious morning sickness throughout as well as other ailments (just kept getting ill). I had to be weighed the other day for the anthetist to check me over for suitability of an epidural and i weighed in under 20 stone which delighted me no end particularly as it's less than when i started and i'm still heavily pregnant with a very healthy weighted looking baby! Can't wait to be weighed in again after!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JODIEhavingababy · 13/04/2008 12:04

Yeah Missvicki, that's really good news! Keep us updated and good luck with your iminant arrival!
