Pregnant after taking the Ella One Morning After Pill, looking for advice

I am 6 weeks pregnant after taking the EllaOne morning after pill, and looking for anyone's stories or advice as to whether this caused them any issues or complications during the pregnancy and for the child.

It doesn’t have any harmful effects. It works by preventing or delaying ovulation not by doing anything to an embryo that is already there.

Me

I told my midwife and all doctors (previous loss so under consultant care) and the only thing they were concerned about at the very start was if pregnancy was in the right place, so not ectopic.

I had a scan to confirm at 4 or 5 weeks.

Since then it's been treated as a normal pregnancy.

Gentle congratulations. I know it can be a shock.

@lookingforadvice1234 I'm due in December, so far all is well with the pregnancy 😊

@OnNaturesCourse hope you don’t mind me asking how things are going? I’ve been given the Ella one but they are not too sure it’s going to work for me due to where I might have been in my cycle. Just feel really worried now xxx

All went fine. My DC is now 5 months old and I had no issues with the pregnancy/DC is healthy and happy.

Appreciate that with the Ella you are wanting it to work in terms of preventing a pregnancy so I guess for me that didn't "go fine". There is a chance that, no matter where you are in cycle, it won't work for whatever reason. I believe the best form is to get the coil inserted if you are uncertain of your cycle or left it too late for the Ella. I genuinely didn't think I had left it too late so didn't look into that route in too much detail.

Hi,

This happened with me, I fell pregnant with my daughter after taking the Ella one morning after pill. She is a happy, healthy 2 year old it did not affect her or the pregnancy.

@OnNaturesCourse aww lovely xx thank you for getting back to me xxx I would be okay if it has happened I just feel worried about the effects of the pill. They said they didn’t want to risk a coil. Xx

TN2025 · 20/05/2025 10:10

@spicyenchilladas aww thank you so much for getting back to me. I am due on on Thursday xxxx

OnNaturesCourse · 20/05/2025 10:11

The only thing different for me was the early scan to check placement of pregnancy as there is a slight higher risk of ectopic. Just something to keep in mind.

@OnNaturesCourse thank you xx
