Period like pains 39 weeks - could this be early labour?

Heyy all,

I’m 39 weeks pregnant, this morning I woke up with mild menstrual cramps on and off for a few hours followed by sharp pains kind of like I needed to go for a poo (sorry TMI 😂). No real pattern to them and only lasted for about 3/4 hours.

I was sure this was the early signs of labour but it’s now 8pm and not really felt much else throughout the day.

Could this be the early signs of labour ? Anyone else had similar experience ? Constantly feel like every little thing is a sign of labour at this point lol

Very much could be but you could also be days, even a couple weeks from it actually happening. It's quite frustrating not knowing!

All the best! X

Hey OP. I’m 38+2 and been having this all week. I was in triage last night for a different issue and mentioned this and they said it could be early Labour but can last a week or more! Good luck

MixedCouple2 · 05/07/2024 21:33

I had this at 39 weeks went on for 5 days then went into active labour.
Your body just practicing.

2nd baby and I started getting mild cramps at 35 weeks evening and early morning.
Good sign body is gearing up but it is not labour.

Heyy nope no sign yet! It was Friday when I started with the symptoms but they stopped and not really felt anything over the weekend. Just had a membrane sweep today and I was 1cm dilated so fingers crossed !

I actually haven’t 😩 had membrane sweep on Monday, lost mucus plug Wednesday and been losing bits ever since, had more period type cramps Thursday but they seem to have eased off now. It’s been a long week lol it’s now Saturday but I’m being induced tomorrow so the end is in sight !

Aarrgghh!

You know, after I wrote my last post, I realised that you could quite well not have had your baby yet.

I hope it isn't much longer. I remember those last days, overdue and wanting it to ennnndddd.

Pradominal labour. Ignore it. Otherwise you well drive yourself nuts. With DS1 I had it from 38weeks he was born 39w5d. With DS 2 (now) it started around 35w!!!!

You could try induction at home? Mile Circuit. 60mps of castor oil, yoga, etc etc?
