Induction with foley balloon

I opted for the balloon as opposed to the prostaglandin hormone. I couldnt really decide on which ans midwife really didn't offer much advice .
Upon checking me they found I was 1cm dilated and by the time they finished inserting balloon midwife said I was now 2cm.
Just wondering about other people's opinions on both options. If I was already dilated would the foley have a better success rate? I'm 38 weeks

I could be wrong on this because I'm going on memory, but I recall having a conversation with an experienced midwife some years ago about this and they said that studies had shown that the balloon was just as effective as the hormone and much gentler so they tended to use that first.

My hospital just went through my options at the weekend. She said the hospital always start with the balloon as its safer and has lower rates of complications and is a bit more "natural" ie doesn't make your contractions stronger so they start with that.
