Havn't had appt since 16 weeks, mdwife had baby so have new one which I have never met, I'm now 27 weeks.

She has phoned ages ago, but due for 28 wk appt next wk and as yet have heard nothing. She knows I work and only have certain days I can see her on...feeling like i've been kicked to the curb!

I felt this way when pg with Dd2 Sketchi. I think mine just presumed I knew it all, had been through it all so left me to it. The reality was I was more nervous with Dd2 as I knew what was coming! Can you make an appointment to talk through things with another midwife on a day that is convenient to you?

vicky11 · 10/04/2008 11:05

Yes!!! Hardly seen my midwife at all - and when I have had an appointment I've seen different ones for one reason or another!
Now 40wks on sat and starting to panic as had planned cs 1st time and only attended 2 antenatal classes! I'm booked in for a sweep on tues so I will have to go armed with 1001 questions for my vbac planned.

When I asked her how long they visit for after she replied "oh we'll come the once and if everything is ok we'll leave you to it!" Charming!!

Absolutely
I am 12 weeks and I am having my first booking in appt today (!!!!)

Feel completely left to get on with it this time and this is making me more anxious.

I've been really impressed by the care I've had with dc2. Had booking in at 6 weeks, scan at 12, midwife at 16 weeks and thereafter every 4 weeks until 30 weeks and now see her every 2 weeks. I was expecting to see her less than with ds but it seems just as frequent. So you've only had blood pressure, urine etc checked once the whole pregnancy? I would request appointment if you are unhappy

Me too sketchi. I was in hospital quite a lot up to 15 wks pg (now 27 wks too come and sy hello on the July antenatal thread!) with hyperemesis as per 1st time round and when I did get to see her for the second time at 16 weeks for blood screening she was not even interested in the fact that I was still on medication for the sickness! As long as she can tick her box to say that she's checked my urine and blood pressure every 8 weeks or so she doen't want to know.

But then DH treats me differently this time too- last time I was told not to lift this that don't worry I'll get it no you sit down etc etc- this time it's like "what's the problem? What do you mean you can't push my mates car broken down car with me because you're pregnant? Your not ill woman!"

Yep it's shit isn't it. I'm due for six visits in my entire pregnancy and apparently if I see the consultant again I can skip three of them

Mind you, I don't actually see the same person twice ever so it's not like there is continuity of care.

Wait until you get to your 3rd or 4th baby....they don't give you a second glance!

I remember on my 3rd getting absolutely no help from the ward MW's at all as they think you should know it all by then...but I was struggling with breast feeding

I'm on my fourth now and getting more than enough attention. However, that's due to health complications which is another story....
