5+3 after frozen embryo transfer (TMI PIC sorry)

Hello everyone 👋🏼 this is my first time posting and I never ever thought I’d be one to post a pic but out of sheer desperation… here I am.

So I had a top quality 5 day embryo transferred on 06/06. Tested positive 10 days later, on day 3 of the so called ‘implantation bleeding’ which was brown spotting to almost black like the colour of an oreo biscuit on occasion. Anyway fast forward to today, the brown spotting has been pretty consistent for 14 days now. And today it has turned a deep red colour (pic attached) but I’ve also been cramping quite intensely for the past couple of hours. The deep red blood seems to have stopped now and has resumed to my ‘normal’ rusty brown discharge but I’m going out of my mind with worry. My clinic have brought my scan forward to next Tuesday 02/07 but I feel like I’m just in limbo. I conceived naturally Feb 2021 and that ended in MC at 7 weeks 😭 and we’ve been TTC ever since, hence our IVF journey. Please can someone tell me if they ever experienced this and all was ok 🙏

I don't have any experience with IVF but I bled for the first ten weeks of my pregnancy. I also had a bleed at 15 weeks. I got checked out at the EPU and all was ok.

The colour of the blood is down to how old it is as I understand it. The first question the EPU asked was how heavy the bleeding was - the fact it wasn't (and yours doesn't seem to be) was a good sign.

Hopefully everything will be ok for you. I'm sorry you're experiencing this, I know how awfully worrying it is. Sending you virtual support and all the very best with the scan

Hi mine was exactly like this with both my ivf pregnancies for at least a week. It could also be the progesterone pessaries effecting it if you're on these.

Once it stopped it never came back and I've had two healthy babies.

I know easier done but try not to stress, my clinic said as long as it isn't big clots/unmanageable pain it should be fine. I had a scan 5w 6d as I was v stressed with it.

Could you also test your hcg and see if it's doubling every two days, I did this and it calmed me down?

Good luck!

MummySleepDeprived · 25/06/2024 20:47

I bled enough to not want to test on official test day post transfer but they made me and it was positive. It ended up being a suspected abdominal ectopic.

See if your lines are getting lighter or darker. Mine got lighter which was good as it was dissolving and not putting me at risk.

Keep an eye for any pain including the tip of your shoulder.

My pregnancies weren’t ivf but I bled with both of them. First one just a bit, second one like periods every so often, in fact I assumed they were periods

TicklishTraybake · 25/06/2024 21:17

Thank you all for your prompt responses. I haven’t dared to test again since last Saturday which is when I got almost a dye stealer, I nearly bought some on my way home from work today but the thought of waking up tomorrow morning and testing for it to be lighter just breaks my heart. I’m praying that it is just a random bleed and all will be well. I’m just concerned about the cramping too though, NS05 did you cramp as well as bleed? It’s just so stressful, I thought the IVF process was stressful enough but since I got my BFP my life has been in turmoil with the spotting/bleeding and uncertainty of it all. Also I am in the UK so my clinic won’t check HCG, I called EPU a week ago and they would t even give me the time of day until I’m at least 6 weeks!

Also, I am on Cyclogest pessaries 3 X daily but I use them rectally so I don’t think it will be them? Really appreciate you all responding. I’m in a spiral here and have been for 2 weeks but today seeing the red has me in total despair!

@TicklishTraybake yes I did have some cramping too I remember I was terrified. I'm in the UK but did go private so I luckily could get the hcg tests. My friend also had a sub chronic hematoma with her ivf pregnancy which causes bleeding (very common with ivf pregnancies and usually not harmful at all). I guess all you can do is try and relax and then book in for a scan on 6 weeks.

Yes pessaries shouldn't affect if going the other way.

Sending you lots of luck, I remember how terrified I was after the ordeal of ivf and a MMC I cried when the sonographer told me it was all ok so I hope the same will be for you!

USaYwHatNow · 25/06/2024 22:02

Sorry OP but if you've already had on/off implantation bleeding, this looks and sounds very different to an implantation bleed, especially with the intense cramps you say you've been experiencing. You could take a pregnancy test towards the end of the week for reassurance prior to your scan.

TicklishTraybake · 26/06/2024 07:38

@NS05 thank you 🙏 I’m booked in for my scan next Tuesday 02/07. Praying it’s just an unknown blip and the pregnancy carries on. My nipples are still slightly tender and sore. I’m still a tad crampy this morning but nothing like last night, and so far only had brown spotting today! God it’s such a rollercoaster!

@USaYwHatNow thank you, I’ll wait for my scan next week I think. I’m assuming if I’m going to miscarry it will happen this week before my scan anyway!

I’ll update, thanks again everyone xx

I’ve just had loads of floaty black bits come out of me. Like congealed blood 🤢 really hope this isn’t the start of it! Can’t believe this is happening again!

@TicklishTraybake just seen your update and that no one else has replied yet so didn't want to read and run. I'm hoping for good news for your scan next week for you 🙏🏻.

LittleSparklyStar · 26/06/2024 19:49

Good luck for your scan x

NS05 · 26/06/2024 22:59

@TicklishTraybake sorry have just seen this, really sorry this is happening but try and stay as calm as you can and just wait to hear on Tuesday 🙏 hoping it will all be good news!

Sausagedog101 · 26/06/2024 23:02

Sending hugs OP xxx

TicklishTraybake · 27/06/2024 06:48

Thank you guys. I’ve started bleeding quite heavy now and decided to take another clear blue digi which still shows 1-2 so it isn’t looking good. Heartbroken but we do have another frostie 🥚 so it isn’t the end! I’ll update properly on Tuesday ❤️ xxx

NS05 · 27/06/2024 07:39

@TicklishTraybake I'm so sorry it really is so unfair. I would get any further tests done before transferring the frostie like progesterone, thyroid, blood clotting etc just to rule out everything. My friend had blood that was prone to clotting and had to take heparin injections through pregnancy and was fine.

Wish you all the best of luck xx

TicklishTraybake · 27/06/2024 08:06

Thanks you @NS05 I have had most tests done already. I have low progesterone. I have PCOS and anovulatory cycles. It’s been a 4 year process for us to get to this stage! Now you mention thyroid, I’m not sure that has been checked actually so I will ask when the clinic calls me back today. They are very thorough though. We didn’t get our embryos PGA tested which I’m worried about now. So could be chromosomal.. I guess we will never know. Just got to cling to our last 🥚 hope. Thanks a lot for the support, this site is great for making sure you don’t feel alone!

@TicklishTraybake I'm so sorry that's so tough. Thyroid is definitely important my clinic never liked my TSH to be over 2.5, I was actually on medication as mine was 3.5. I also have pcos but had regular cycles, ours was an issue with my husbands sperm so I think was more straightforward. Really hoping your last frostie works 🙏

protectthesmallones · 27/06/2024 08:29

@TicklishTraybake

Your experience and time line is identical to mine 25 years ago!

All of it. The cramping and the bleeding. At your stage I was devastated and convinced I'd lost the baby. I had so so many scans for reassurance.

Well, I've just helped that baby move house!!

It was just a strange pregnancy and I bled all the way through it which was scary to say the least.

Wishing you well. I know this is so hard to do but focus on relaxation and zen right now. You can't change the outcome but your mental health is important and feeling zen and peaceful will help.

TicklishTraybake · 29/06/2024 07:43

Hi everyone and thank you for your kind words and advice. I just wanted to update and say that I passed my little bean yesterday and have taken a test this morning and it says not pregnant. The clinic will still want to scan me to make sure everything has gone. Devastated but will move on to the next one as soon as we can, and @NS05 definitely asking about TSH! thanks ☺️ xxxx
