Hi,
Just looking for some advice please! Due baby boy middle of August but have been told it'll be a planned induction or csection at 38/39 weeks due to my blood clotting condition (Antiphospholipid syndrome). I've done some research and it's mixed on whether it's better to have baby out at 37 or 38 weeks. Worried that if they leave it until 39 weeks there may be increased risks to baby or I may go into natural labour and need to be put to sleep as I can't have an epidural if it's been less than 12 hours since taking heparin. Any advice is appreciated thanks x

Hey hun. I’m injecting fragmin blood thinner and have been since about 32 weeks. I’m having c section at 39 weeks (I’m 36+5) and they haven’t mentioned it’s unsafe. They offered induction at 38 weeks which I turned down

Thanks for your reply! Hope you don't mind me asking but have you got APS? Do you have to stop your blood thinners before your csection. Hope it all goes smoothly for you x

No so I’ve been taking baby aspirin since 12 weeks as they said my high BMI makes me high risk for pre-eclampsia. They they told me to start on the blood thinners as baby was measuring big and I’m at high risk for blood clotting. I saw my consultant today and she told me I’ll need to carry on injecting for 6 weeks after my section. Thinking about the 12 hour window you mentioned though, I inject at 6:15pm every night so they’ll definitely be a 12 hour window by the time I have my c section

Ok thankyou so much, I've been on aspirin & heparin since 6 weeks but just wondering what week other people with APS have had a planned csection as there's conflicting information online!! My consultant said I'll be stopping the aspirin around 36/37 weeks and heparin 12/24hours before planned section because of the epidural, then back on the heparin for 10 weeks after.

Yeah very nervous too to be honest, but I've heard lots of good stories from elective csections! If you have any questions feel free to ask as I may be able to answer some as freinds have told me all about theirs. Be my first birth/csection too with our rainbow baby X

I was diagnosed with APS when pregnant with DS last year. I had a section with my DD four years earlier so was quite happy to do the same again, and they mentioned that it would likely be 38-39w. However DS’s growth slowed and then plateaued, and they brought it up to 37w on the dot. They did mention about DS potentially needing steroids to assist his breathing but he didn’t need them. Towards the end of my pregnancy I was being scanned weekly and they were constantly drumming into me about movements etc (because he was measuring so small). I do think for most APS pregnancies it really is a case of wait and see and they’ll whip them out at the first sign of issues. Good luck!

Thankyou so much, growth is looking good so far with baby. I'm currently 33 weeks and have one scan left at 36 weeks so hopefully all goes to plan, just hoping they won't leave it until 39 weeks as have heard its best to have baby around 37/38 weeks with APSx

Awww congratulations. My anxiety has been so bad during the pregnancy I’ve just worried about my baby the whole time I just want her here safe and healthy now to be honest. Thanks if I have got any questions I’ll ask. Hope all goes smoothly for us both! X
