Private scans

Does anyone have a recommendation of where to go (or what to look for) in an 8 week private scan please? In London.

I know there are loads out there but that's what makes it so difficult to work out and choose. I'd prefer a recommendation if anyone has one.

I see St Thomas hospital do private ones but they're more expensive (£200) than most, still I do want a professional doing a proper health check and not just a blob image for the fridge!

Any experiences and recommendations would be great.

Thanks 🙏

No advice re. specific places but just to let you know that at 8 weeks there isn’t really a “proper health check” to do because at that stage it really does just look like a little blob. All private scans check the same things for that gestation, it’s really just to look for heartbeat, check location of the pregnancy, and mine also looked at my ovaries to see which side I had ovulated from. There’s nothing more detailed than that to be seen at that stage they are just to confirm heart beat and that it’s in the right place really x

@Mrsttcno1 that's very helpful thank you. I'd at least like to know those things are checked properly and it's not just an imaging service (which as you say is pointless at that stage!)

I remember reading "one in three private scan clinics fail standards" so am nervous about how to work out if I'm going somewhere that actually knows what it's doing or might give me false reassurance/worry.

Has anyone had a good early scan in London? Someone must have! 🫣

Heybaby4d.co.uk/sutton This place is south london/Surrey borders and has amazing google reviews!

I went to peek a baby - I know they also have a clinic somewhere in London. You can read their reviews - the clinic I went to was fantastic but I’m not sure what the London clinic is like. The reassurance scan just confirms the location of the pregnancy, heartbeat and your estimated due date. You’ll have the proper checks during your scans with the NHS at 12 weeks and 20 weeks =) and not to forget your monthly appointments with the midwife!

Ultrasound Diagnostic Services on Harley street were good, scan was £140. They do have a male sonographer so be explicit that you want a female if you do.

hey @m00ngirl sorry to restart this old thread but where did you go in the end please? Also looking now!

Hey @Brownbottle I went to St Thomas' Hospital in London (you can pay for private scans there) for a 7-8 week scan - it's more expensive than most but you get a consultant and at that stage that was exactly the high level of medical reassurance etc I wanted, I'm really glad I did that. guysandstthomasspecialistcare.co.uk/investigations/pregnancy-scans/

Since then I've been to Meet My Baby just to see the baby - they also do 4D scans - which has been lovely but I personally wouldn't go there/to these commercial places for medical reassurance as you just get a sonographer rather than consultant obv. I only really needed that medical reassurance at 7 weeks and then obv had my NHS scans at 12 and 20 weeks for more reassurance.

Good luck! Xx
