Pregnancy dates wrong

Hi wondering if anyone can help I'm very unclear about how the timings of my pregnancy works and how far along I am. The nhs tells me I'm 6w3d but I know for a fact I conceived on or roughly these dates as my partner works away so sex is not regular. Between my last period and now we have DTD on only
20th , 22nd , 23rd, 24th may and 5th June

For purposes of getting early scans ect am I 4 weeks pregnant or 6. Or miraculously the one time on 5th I could be 2.5weeks but it wasn't my estimated ovulation week then unless I ovulated late. I've got crazy symptoms tho so don't know if symptoms would show that early . Clear blue weeks says 1-2weeks , midwife said they are only roughly 72% accurate on weeks. So confused. Thanks in advance

Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last period, not the day you conceive

When was the first day of your last period?

https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/finding-out/due-date-calculator/

9th may. I had an early scan yesterday and there was absolutely nothing to see considering I'm supposedly 6w2 then. Told the midwife my cycles are irregular and she suggested that I could be less weeks than I think. Just so confused because if I conceived 4 weeks ago of course you wouldn't see anything

Is there a reason you are getting scan so early? If not, just wait, give them last period date and it will be sorted out at 12 week scan.

Peonies12 · 22/06/2024 20:57

it’s counted from your last period not conception date. At 6weeks 3 days you’d expect to see a heartbeat, did they see that?

Nope didn't see any sign of pregnancy at all. I've had left arm pain all day but not at the shoulder. Was sent to hospital now awaiting bloods

Nope I had no symptoms of anything being wrong. I was just eager to confirm to myself which I wish I hadn't now. This is my first ever pregnancy and was unexpected so I guess I was just eager for some validation which hasn't worked in my favour. I did check with midwife if I could and she said go for it so I did

i think you’ll have to wait for blood results, and assume they’ll rescan you. I’m also shocked you got an NHS early scan just because you wanted one, I need to live in your area! I couldn’t even get a scan whilst I had a miscarriage

I went private! I meant I asked the nhs midwife if I was okay to get a scan (privately) and she said go for it. Blood test came back at 96, since I have irregular periods it doesn't mean good or bad..she just said it rules out that I wouldn't of miscarried with no symptoms as I could just be 4 weeks and 96 would be fine..back again Monday..hoping all will be fine. This waiting is gruelling🫤

The amount of threads on people who went for early scans and were anything but reassured is staggering.

Waste of money imo.
If you have done a pregnancy test and it is positive and nature has yet to show you otherwise, assume you are pregnant and wait for the NHS scans. There is a reason they scan at 12 weeks and not 6/7/8 weeks.

Katrinawaves · 23/06/2024 09:45

I had private care for all 3 of my pregnancies and early scans each time but my consultant would not schedule these before 7 weeks from the date of my last period because you can’t guarantee that you will see anything before then.

Do don’t panic! Assume that you are pregnant unless and until you have any bleeding and check again at your next scan which will be around 12 weeks. Also keep an eye on that shoulder pain and if it continues or gets any worse suddenly get that checked out as that could be a symptom of an ectopic pregnancy.

Makes sense! I’d definitely wait at least another week for another scan, if you are only 4 weeks, there won’t be enough change in a couple of days. Be careful of private places, some are not regulated and just want your money,

When I had a MMC, having a (very thorough and professional) early scan meant I knew what was going to happen from around 7 weeks, whereas nature didn't bother to 'show me otherwise' until almost a month later. The main feeling I had at the time was feeling so stupid I'd believed my baby was, like, the size of a wild strawberry or whatever when it had been a sesame seed the whole time. I can't describe how much worse it would have been if I'd thought it was up to being a kumquat and only found out at the point I miscarried. I agree that there's such a thing as having a scan too early, but I found value in knowing what was happening.

I won't scan again privately it was just horrific and I'm put off. No compassion or anything in no uncertain terms she told me there's nothing there go home and wait for it to pass I doubt you'll still be positive on a test by the morning gave me a leaflet and off I went. When I told the gynaecologist this last night he could not believe it!! He said in my case I am just earlier than I think and my arm pain he is not concerned about as I do nails as a job and lean on my elbow area all day (where it hurts) and there's no other symptoms. Since they think I've just turned 4 weeks they said blood test bringing back as 96 hcg is completely normal and there not concerned as in most cases a missed miscarriage would show between 5-50 hcg. I feel like I've worried myself for nothing and caused unnecessary stress. I am returning tomorrow evening for another blood test in the hope it's doubled and will just stick to nhs advise now
