Spotting

I’m 8 weeks 2 days. I have light spotting just now. I’ve had some backache when walking as I find my back is stiff and clicking about at times. Yesterday I had a tiny amount of pink discharge and a dull ache in my right side. Almost felt like pressure. I was due my 2nd missed period yesterday. I’m seeing my midwife for the first time in 3 days time for my usual first appointment. Yesterday I did lift a heavy bottle of water and felt uncomfortable so I dropped the bottle immediately. This is my first ever pregnancy. Could it be implantation or the placenta taking over from the yolk sac? Or normal because my period is actually due this time? I’m symptom watching and anxious at times. What’s the difference between normal cramping, back pain, normal spotting and more serious issues like miscarriage? Thanks

I had spotting during my first trimester, it sounds very similar to what you’ve experienced. To reassure myself I phoned EPU and they arranged a scan just to make sure everything was okay. They told me to watch out for intense pain and heavier discharge/ bleeding.

Thankfully baby was all okay but there was no reason for the bleeding.

I’d recommend phoning EPU and explaining what’s happening. They can advise on next steps and talk it through with you.
