Car camera / monitor for newborn recs?

Just wondering if anyone has bought a good quality car camera / monitor for when baby is in their car seat that you would recommend? Any of the ones on Amazon seem to have hit or miss reviews or the picture quality on the monitors seems to deteriorate after a few weeks.

Can't you get one of those mirrors then you can see them?

Yes but would be less of a distraction when driving if I didn't have to turn around to check as I will be on motorways and not sitting in traffic etc a camera / monitor would be safer

In my opinion this is one of those things that sound interesting but ultimately not massively useful.

You can set up the mirrors so you can see them in your rear view mirror which is handy, less when they're a newborn and more when they're turning into toddler houdinis and you can see them quietly escaping their harness. But you know really quickly if they're unhappy in their car seat because they scream merry hell, and being able to see them on a monitor while they're doing that wouldn't add anything to the situation.

You can see the mirror in your rear view mirror, you don't have to turn. You'd hear a new born crying, you don't' need a monitor for that!

You don't need t9 turn around with the mirrors, you attach it to the rear seat so it's facing the rear view mirror, then you see the reflection of the baby in your rear view mirror.

You can get some really good mirrors with flashing lights and music! My three year old still loves his!!

mitogoshi · 21/06/2024 09:33

It's not safe to be watching a monitor whilst driving!

Apparently the cameras are technically illegal due to the screen - the mirrors you angle so you can see it in your rear view but honestly we never bothered to set one up for our neglected third born Blush He remained perfectly safe without being seen and rear faced longer than the other two.

I think the distraction of checking the monitor constantly would be unsafe.

UpUpUpU · 25/06/2024 20:00

Mirror is all you need OP. A camera sounds distracting and also OTT.

Edited

Just came here to say this about the legality of watching a screen whilst driving.

Much safer than trying to watch a camera while driving!! Spend your money on a good quality car seat, stay rear facing as long as possible and drive safely yourself. Brief checks in the mirror will reassure you xx

Another vote for mirror! I was also tempted by the camera, particularly for when driving in the dark, but was similarly dissuaded by the legal aspect of the monitor
