Induction/High BP

Just wanted some advice, as not 100% I’m doing the right thing!

I came in a week ago at 36+3 for a routine appointment and the consultant wasn’t happy with my blood pressure I think it was 150 something over 90 odd, so I went to the maternity ward where they kept me in and monitored, I was given labetalol twice a day and my blood pressure went down slightly to 145/80ish but they wanted to give me more so I then went on 200mg 3 times a day and booked me in for an induction at 38+4 days which I’m fine with. Fast forward this week (37+4) I came in for a blood pressure check and it was 140/80ish again so they monitored me all day and it was a bit up and down to be honest, I don’t deal well with hospitals either, they then agreed to put me on 300mg 3 times a day and monitored me over night, it went back to normal to even 127/77 a couple of times so completely normal. The doctor has now said how do I feel about bringing my induction forward so not necessarily saying it’s a necessity but I guess bringing it forward to my blood pressure doesn’t go up again.

I’ve now said I’d like to wait till the date I have which is only 5 days away as other than my BP which isn’t bad there’s no other reason other than the baby measuring 8lb at the moment but I don’t think 5 days will make much difference?

I understand that they don’t say about induction for no reason but I’m already going to be a week and a half early than my due date and my blood pressure has settled? The midwife also mentioned that having an induction tomorrow (a Friday) will be better as it’ll be less busy on the weekend, so made it seem like it was a convenience more for them than me?

Theyve checked my bloods on both occasions and no pre eclampsia and urine is clear? I have no other symptoms other than a minor headache which isnt bad or constant at all, which I think is caused by hay fever as my nose is stuffy too, but feel completely fine in myself.

Any thoughts?

I had high BP with DD1 and then again with DD2 (which did turn into preeclampsia). Have they mentioned adding nifedipine? I ended up on 300mg labetalol + 40mg nifedipine per day, which got my BP under control enough to make it into week 39 (i had a section booked for 39+5 but went into spontaneous labour at 39+3). Each one on its own wasnt working but together they got it stabilised.

So they said they don’t want to keep topping up medication but I’m not sure why to be honest, I’m on 300mg 3 times a day though so 900mg in total not 300mg for the whole day? Maybe I’m on a lot as it is?

Aah, sorry i misread your post and didnt realise it was 300mg 3x per day. Yes, maybe you are right.

You could always ask to speak to one of the consultant midwives about the risks vs benefits of waiting for the induction. I was able to have a really good discussion with the birth options consultant midwife via teams when i was at home, and i felt much calmer about making a decision when I'd had time to think about things / not being rushed in a hospital appointment.

Yes true, they wanted me to make a decision today about having an induction either today or tomorrow which is so sudden! I have a community midwife routine appt tomorrow anyway so will speak to her about it all, but just wondering if anyone had similar stories, just worrying constantly 🫠
