Social Worker Advice Please?!

In 2021 I gave birth to my first child. After birth I quickly developed severe post partum psychosis.
I was unable to go to a mother and baby unit and was treated in a psychiatric unit for 9 months.

Social Services became involved and my child lived with a family member before moving to his Dad’s home. Social Services took the matter to court and they formally gave him a child’s arrangement order for my son to live with him and they recommended I have supervised contact until I was better. I understood this as I had been very poorly and I barely saw my son for the first year of his life.

I am now pregnant with my second child. I contacted social services as I knew it would flag up eventually. I’ve also been referred to specialist perinatal mental health to be monitored incase I become unwell in this pregnancy.

Social Services have called me and said the case needs to be referred to a manager and I will likely need an assessment for my toddler and unborn baby.

Does anyone have any idea what this entails? Can they just remove my daughter to her Dad’s when she is born without court intervention?

This was a single issue case. I have no drug or alcohol issues, no dv, no criminal record. I did not have significant mental health issues before being diagnosed with post partum psychosis and have not relapsed since.

Thank you :) x

They will just wanting to make sure that you have support (from them and other services) throughout your pregnancy/post-natally and that everyone will be keeping an eye in case it happens again.

so sorry to hear they couldn’t find you space on an MBU with your first, that’s terrible.
