Went for a scan and baby has fluid on his chest. Has anyone experienced this before, and what was the outcome?
Thanks 😊

Were you not given a follow up appointment with a fetal medicine specialist? They would be best placed to guide you through possible associated issues and outcomes based on the scans they are looking at. Much better than internet randoms giving advice on what may/may not be the same thing.

Yes, I've had an appointment with fetal medicine too. Just waiting on results now. As I'm so worried, I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this too, thanks.

Did fetal medicine not give you any indications on what might be happening?

I know when I had an abnormal scan and follow up I was told the likely cause at the scan and this was followed up with conformation later.

They said it can be a numerous of things. That's why I'm having lot's of tests to get to the bottom of the main cause. I also had to have fluid drained from the Amniotic sac, to go of for testing which can take upto 3 weeks for the results. It's just a waiting game now. Just very worrying as I already have two children and have never experienced anything like this before.

Just giving solidarity here, it's so anxiety inducing when this happens. Wishing you and the baby all the best!

Thanks very much for your kindness 😊

I had parvovirus in pregnancy and passed it to baby, a scan revealed fluid on baby’s abdomen, I was referred to fetal medicine unit, had a scan every week. I was given a 50% chance of a miscarriage and there were plans for a blood transfusion and to give birth in a specialist unit. But 2 weeks later the fluid had reduced and I was referred back to my local hospital. All is fine now and my baby is now a healthy 10 year old. I wish you all the best during these worrying times.

Thanks for that 😊 glad your baby is doing ok.
That is one of the things they have discussed, I've had bloods to check infection, just waiting on the results.
