Does severe contipation affect ultrasound view?

I've been really struggling with constipation the last few weeks, getting support from my GP but nothing seems to be working. Anyway, I have my 12 week scan on Friday and worried the view might be obstructed somehow, like I know it can be with bloating/gas.
Anyone got any experience of this?

Thank you

You often have both. Constipation caused trapped wind.

I was constipated for mine, it wasn’t very comfortable as they can push quite hard with the probe! But they saw everything fine.

You have got time to go and buy some lactulose and get it sorted before the scan. Get some prune juice too.

I've been doing this for weeks unfortunately to no avail- now switched to laxido but not much luck yet 😭

Oh I am sorry to hear that. Has GP mentioned glycerine suppositories yet? Can you tolerate smoothies/prunes/vegetable soup/stewed fruit? It is difficult, especially if you are suffering from nausea/sickness.

Get yourself a packet of soft dried apricots from aldi. I guarantee they will do the job

I was told that I had excessive bowel gas during an ultrasound. It wasn't bowel gas, it was a melon sized tumor

Theunamedcat · 19/06/2024 08:44

Have you tried the suger free sweets from aldi?

Had an 8 week scan with terrible constipation, in fact the sonographer mentioned it and said I must be feeling pretty uncomfortable with it! It didn't cause any issues at all with the scan.

In addition to the tips you've already had, apparently vitamin deficiencies can cause things to move slower, particularly magnesium. I also struggle if I'm not drinking enough water, so make sure you're well hydrated.

Hope the scan goes well
