Kensington Wing or Westminster Maternity Suite

Hubby and I just found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant with our first! My GP advised me to self-refer to a hospital ASAP. After much research and discussion, hubby and I finally decided to go for private care within a NHS hospital with NICU access should complications arise. I want an elective c-section for clinical and non-clinical reasons as well as consultant-led care.

We are currently deciding between (1) Kensington Wing at Chelsea & Westminster and (2) Westminster Maternity Suite at St Thomas's.

Has anyone got experience of one of those (...or both?)? Any insights would be much appreciated!

Also we live 36min by bus from CW and 15min by bus from St Thomas's - is that an important factor?

Thank you

Hi! I know this is a few months ago but I wondered what you decided in the end? I've just started TTC for my first baby and have The Kensington Wing as a preference when (fingers crossed) I fall pregnant. It's obviously a big decision and not without financial sacrifice but with the state of maternity care currently, I feel it's something to consider seriously. Would love to hear how you're getting on!

Hi @PimlicoBelle123 I am wondering which one have you chosen? I´ve just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant and am trying to decide on which hospital to choose. We also think well go private because Ive read terrible things about shared wards and think could use as much comfort as its available.

Thank you!!

Hi @BTigre

I miscarried in July but recently found out I’m pregnant again. Before the miscarriage, we had chosen the Westminster Maternity Suite and we've decided to stick with this. Our main reasons were location, its position in a large hospital and proximity to the Evelina Children's Hospital in case specialist care is needed.

While I love the concept of the NHS, my personal experiences with it have been disappointing. Compared to other countries with public healthcare that I’ve experienced, I’ve found the NHS system flawed in its execution. That is why we are choosing private maternity care.

I’m truly sorry about your loss, thank you so much for sharing your point of view on private care. I’m new to the UK and this is very helpful. I wish you a very healthy and happy new pregnancy @PimlicoBelle123 💚🙏🏼
