I’ve got a 10 month old and he’s still awake every couple of hours in the night (we end up co sleeping from midnight or so). I’m still EBF so not looking to get pregnant any time soon but I guess I’m planning ahead as I’d like a 2-2.5yr age gap but am worried about DS1’s sleep during pregnancy and god forbid newborn weeks!

was anyone else in a similar position? What did you do?

I have a slightly bigger age gap, with my first being 2.5 when I got pregnant, but at the time he was still coughing sleeping for the latter part of the night and feeding to sleep. I ended up with HG so had to stop feeding to stop getting dehydrated and after a few nights he went down well for his dad. Now his dad is the one who goes to him in the night and sleeps next to his bed with him for a few hours. He adapted really well to the changes.

I found out I was pregnant with my second when my first was 13 months old. His sleep was still a shit show at that point. We finally got him sleeping through the night most of the time by the time he was about 18 months old. I got three months where my nights were only being interrupted by my own bladder, then my second was born and it all started again. She still isn't sleeping through the night. The good news is that he is a good sleeper now though.

How did you manage to get him sleeping through? Sounds like you’ve had a rough ride!

This is going to be completely unhelpful, but I don't really remember. We just felt under time pressure to get him out of our bed and sleeping through the night independently in his own before his sister arrived, so somehow we did it.

That's why I'm fairly sure we'll eventually get there with his sister as well.

Sometimes you just need to decide you've had enough and keep trying different things until something works.
