Low PAPP-A experiences?

L2435 · 12/06/2024 16:04

Looking for experiences of others who have been diagnosed with low PAPP-A during pregnancy

I’m 16 weeks and have been told to start taking Aspirin daily and will have extra scans later in the pregnancy

Anyone else been in this situation?

How low Hun?

Chasingbaby2 · 12/06/2024 19:47

Mine was. 23 mom so really quite low. Growth tailed off at 40 weeks so I was induced but baby is perfectly healthy and was 6lb 5oz so not tiny. Most people aren't affected at all according to midwives I spoke to at the time.

HelterSkelter224 · 12/06/2024 23:03

Mine was 0.39 and my wee girl was born at 41+3 at 7lb11, now a healthy and boisterous 2.5yo. It's a risk factor not a diagnosis so try not to stress too much (easier said than done I know!!). I did end up with pre-eclampsia but unsure whether that was linked to the low Papp-a. Your midwife will keep a close eye on you.

There's a helpful support group on FB (low Papp-a support group or something like that).

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy ☺️

I have low Papp-A and am on aspirin. I get extra growth scans (having 1st today) to monitor baby and they check the placenta too. I was really worried but baby seems to be doing ok and I'm currently feeling kicks x

Thanks so much all - so reassuring to hear all the positive stories!

Mine is 0.31

@Expectinglittlebean2024 How did your growth scan go?

It was good thanks. Baby was exactly the size it should be :) I'm now 29 weeks. How are you getting on?

I've just given birth to my son, was told I had low pap a at the beginning. They gave me a blood pressure machine to keep an eye on it daily and aspirin which I had to stop taking. But my son was born 40+1 at 7 pounds 11. So for me, low pap a meant nothing. Just had plenty of extra scans which was nice and a consultant.

Fipfop · 21/06/2024 21:58

Had low Papp a in second pregnancy. Baby born at 40+6 at 7lb 13, no issues. There's a Facebook group that's really good for reassurance, loads of positive stories and advice.

@Expectinglittlebean2024 All good so far! But I’m only 18 weeks

29 weeks here, I have low papp a, mine was 0,34.
I have been taking aspirin since week 13. Was placed under consultant care, had the 20W scan and then another consultant scan at 22 weeks, after which they said next scan will need to be just at 32W and 37W.
People say most cases low Papp-a causes no effect and people end up having completely normal pregnancies and completely normal babies. Mine has been going well so far. They will check for protein in your urine every appointment and monitor your blood pressure.

xigris · 23/06/2024 14:23

Hello, I had a PAPP-A of 0.34 with my third baby. I was told it was “pathologically” low. I was scanned every 4 weeks by a foetal medicine consultant and advised to take 75mg aspirin a day until 36 weeks.

He’s now 11.5 years old, tall, loud, energetic and very messy 🙄.

It was really worrying at the time so I do get how you’re feeling. Best of luck and congratulations.

Low Papp-a here of 0.12mom and high pressure in uterine artery (apparently they go hand in hand if placenta is potentially a bit on the rubbish side). I am 34 weeks and have had scans at 28 and 32 weeks. Baby is growing absolutely fine and around 60th centile. Last scan at 36 weeks and then should get an induction date around 40 weeks to be on the safe side.
This is my 3rd and I had a very easy induction with my 1st at 40+5 so not worried about the induction. It actually makes it easier to sort childcare and dog care if we have a date!
I was anxious about the low Papp-A for a while but baby has moved up centiles between 28 and 32 week scans so is clearly doing just fine.

EmpressFlabulonTheWobbulous · 23/06/2024 14:38

I also bought a blood pressure machine when I was anxious and wanted to keep an eye on it ref. Pre-eclampsia. If anything my blood pressure is on the low side. So despite my very very low Papp-A everything seems fine so far!

I’m just updating for anyone searching in the future who finds this thread. PappA 0.12Mom. Pregnancy was completely straightforward. Planned induction on due date. However, waters broke at 39+2 and I had a lovely perfect healthy daughter less than 7hrs later. Midwives described my placenta as “dinky” which I guess may explain the low PappA but it still produced a healthy 7lb2oz baby.

Monkfish24 · 05/08/2024 09:33

I had low PAPP-A in my first pregnancy. I never know the actual level but I wasn't given asprin (I believe that's new) but this was only 2022. I had extra scans but never any problems. Baby was born at 40+2 weighing 7lbs 8oz. I was told the placenta was small when it came out but obviously it did the job.
