Not sure I’m posting this in the right area so please do change it over if it’s not in the right area.

I had my baby 14 weeks ago & had 3rd degree tearing.

I’m still getting pain in the perineal area but much more manageable as I know this will take time.

I went for a smear test today and it was far too painful - nurse didn’t get very far with it at all so I’m going to re book.Thankfully she was lovely & said she doesn’t want me to have it done if I’m clearly in pain.

I’m being referred for an ultrasound for other bits but I’m wondering if anyone here reading has had 3rd degree tearing & how soon after did you have smear test done without being in pain? She said it had healed well from what she could see so I’m confused 😕

Oh bless you! I had a 3rd degree tear and luckily I didn’t need a smear for 18 months so I didn’t have to experience this.
However, sex was uncomfortable for months. I think it probably took 5/6 months for that to feel normal again so I can’t imagine a smear at that point.
be kind to yourself, it does take a while to heal.
sometimes if I’ve been really busy running/super busy I can feel it a bit now! And it’s almost 2 years. It reminds me of when I badly sprained my ankle once and it was the same, when I over did it I could feel it a longggg time after!

Thank you for replying! I felt like a right wuss about it 🤦🏾‍♀️ Think I’m beating myself up about it as I really need it doing due to some symptoms I’m getting. But I’ve had them after having my first & was checked but never really got to bottom off it fully.

is it like a muscular type pain you still get in the perineal area? As I am still getting this too but reminding myself it’s only been 14 weeks 🤦🏾‍♀️

hey - i had my baby 7 weeks ago and had third degree tearing. I still have pain in the perineal area - significantly when i am sitting - like a sharp stabbing stretching pain inside the perineal muscle (if that makes sense) - and the doc said i just need to wait it out to heal. Did u have similar pain?

Definitely don't beat yourself up over it. I had third degree tearing 10 years ago when I had my son and I've recently had testing done in this pregnancy to check the muscle and it's damaged quite badly which has made the decision to have a c section this time round. To have a smear test after 14 weeks sounds terrifying! Well done for even trying!
