Worried that I skipped a meal

I completely didn’t mean to - not sure how I forgot. I had my cereal and milk this morning, a piece of fruit and some fridge raiders at lunchtime, a handful of cashew nuts in the afternoon and a smoothie.

It’s now gone 7 and we aren’t eating for another hour, dinner is cooking.

Is it dangerous to skip a meal? Sorry if that is a silly question. Hoping baby will just take what they need from me.

Well due to nausea and sickness for the first 17 weeks of my pregnancy, I skipped numerous meals!

That baby is now nearly 6 foot tall and permanently hungry so probably making up for that time in my womb!!

It's nothing major OP, you've had small bits at lunchtime...smoothie etc. Eat well at dinner time. Don't beat yourself up, baby is fine.

baby is definitely not relying on each of your meals to sustain it! It will take exactly what it need from you whether you eat or not. Obviously you should try to eat healthily and not miss meals but it’s not going to harm your baby in any way. People fast or live through famine and still have babies. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

DappledThings · 09/06/2024 19:32

There is zero chance of that having even the minutest effect on the baby.

Hey hun. It’ll be fine. I actually got a telling off from hospital yesterday as I had ketones in my urine which means I’m not eating enough (which I know I’m not as I don’t feel hungry) but I’m now forcing myself to eat. They said the baby will take the vitamins they need from what you eat but it’s important to try 3 meals a day and snack in between each one. One day won’t hurt x

It’s fine. You had fridge raider, nuts and a smoothie. Lunch.

You are worrying over nothing. Maybe have a chat with someone about your anxiety?

Thingamebobwotsit · 09/06/2024 19:33

Trust me if you have morning sickness you skip a lot of meals. Baby will be fine.

CaptainCabinets · 09/06/2024 19:33

You’ll be fine! I lived off a few pieces of fruit and a couple of litres of sparkling water for the first 8 weeks because it’s all I could stomach.

You need to read up. You could go a day and still be fine. Baby will get any nutrients from you, it’s you who will suffer. But you have eaten enough and still have more to come. You don’t need extra food until last trimester and even then it’s not much.

kanet · 09/06/2024 19:35

Completely fine.

I skipped hundreds of meals whilst pregnant due to vomiting all the time and lost loads of weight. Kids now teens.

Baby will get what s/he needs from your body anyway.

Hb7x3 · 09/06/2024 19:36

Baby will be absolutely fine op. Please don't worry 😊

Peonies12 · 10/06/2024 09:37

But you didn’t skip a meal? I barely ate anything most of first trimester, all fine. If this is genuinely a worry, please speak to your midwife about support for anxiety as it’s very irrational

This. lost two stone in my first trimester and all I kept down for weeks at a time were barbecue flavour hula hoops. DS was eight pounds at birth, and in perfect health.

are you usually this anxious? without being mean but stressing over not eating much at a single meal seems a bit excessive. babies are literally born in wars and famine. if this anxiety is a one off then fine but if its not please make sure you take care of your mental health and physical health too
