When did your period return post miscarriage?

Wondering if anyone would be happy to share how long it took for their period to return post miscarriage? I had an MVA almost 5 weeks ago and although I know they say 4-6/8 weeks is common it’s hard not to constantly think about how much longer it will take! Thanks so much x

My last miscarriage returned two weeks after, the previous one took 4 weeks.

Sorry for your loss OP. How far along were you? I found each loss to be different, but 'generally' the earlier the pregnancy, the quicker my period returned.

Loss 1 at 12 weeks was TFMR for medical management. I ended up with a small retained product and bled for 3mths. Yes, 3mths! Once cleared, period started 2 weeks later, but was the heaviest I've ever had and took 3mths to normalise

Loss 2 was an MC at 7 weeks. Period started exactly a month later and completely in line with my normal cycle

Loss 3 was an MC at 9 weeks. Period started about 5 weeks after, so slightly longer than my 30 day cycle.

I'm sorry for your loss. When I miscarried last year I had surgical management and my period came back 5 weeks after the surgery (2 weeks after I got a negative pregnancy test). My cycle returned to its normal 29/30 days after that.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and I’m sorry that you’re all here in this situation too.

@CJ0374 3 months is such a long time! So glad you’re out the other side. I’m not 100% on the exact timing the pregnancy ended but it was about 6-7 weeks. I didn’t have an MVA until about 11 weeks. Am now at 5 weeks post MVA and 3 weeks past negative pregnancy test so hoping that it comes back soon 🤞🏼

I had surgical management twice and it returned at 5 weeks for the first and 5.5 weeks for the second. I'm now 3 weeks into waiting for it to return after my third loss and hoping it'll be able the same again!

Bellebg · 19/06/2024 12:05

Thanks for sharing @moosey89 and I’m so sorry you’re going through this again. I’m now 6 weeks past procedure and still no sign of my period arriving anytime soon. Totally didn’t think about this as part of a miscarriage and it so hard waiting! Hope you’re ok as can be. Sending hugs

So sorry for your loss @Bellebg - I hope you're doing okay 💜

I had a D&C in mid-April after an MMC and my period came back almost exactly 5 weeks after.

If it helps to give you any hope, I'm in the first cycle after my MMC (have had one period) and I've just had another BFP at 10/11dpo 🙂 I ovulated on CD19.

moosey89 · 19/06/2024 14:22

@Bellebg the waiting around after a miscarriage is horrible! And it's not like you can do anything to speed it up, so frustrating and feels like wasted time. I've read in previous posts on here that it seems to range from 4-8 weeks to come back if there's no retained products etc. I just got a positive ovulation test 3.5 weeks after my surgery so I reckon 2 weeks until mine should be back.... I hope!

TruthUnwinding · 19/06/2024 15:04

I had a TFMR at 14 weeks, was bleeding for two weeks and then had my first period two weeks after that. I think everyone is different! Can you speak to your doctor if you are concerned? It must be frustrating!

KittyFantastica · 19/06/2024 17:32

Sorry for your loss, OP.

After my chemical at 6 weeks, my cycle returned to normal straight away.

After my MMC at 10 weeks, it took 7 weeks for my period to come back and I still tested positive for pregnancy for a good few days after that as well.

Bellebg · 19/06/2024 20:17

@moosey89 so frustrating isn’t it! Good sign that you had a positive ovulation test. Keeping my fingers crossed that yours comes back soon!

Thanks for sharing @KittyFantastica, good to know that going past 6 weeks doesn’t necessarily point to anything being wrong. Hard not to overthink it isn’t it! Sorry for your loss too, I hope you’re doing as ok as can be x

I had a spontaneous MC, no management. Got my period 5 weeks later

Bellebg · 02/07/2024 16:46

In case anyone is reading this for answers while waiting for their period to return and wondering if it’s only them who’s waiting a long time - I’ve now hit the 8 week mark and still nothing.

Mine took just over 2 months from my loss at 11 weeks 6 days. I think my body needed some time to regulate, it was very frustrating as it felt like my body was going into hibernation. I do have PCOS though so am often a bit all over the place with cycle length.

Bellebg · 03/07/2024 11:51

@graceinc22 thanks for sharing. Reassuring to hear someone else has had a longer gap in between, so many people seem to have 4 weeks! You’re right that I’m sure the body just needs time to recoup. So sorry that you’ve been through this too though x

Hi how did you get on? I’m going through the same thing and it will be just over 9 weeks since my MVA. I’m terrified there is something wrong with me? X

Bellebg · 22/09/2024 12:17

@Elslaw12345 it took 9 weeks for my period to return so hopefully yours will come back soon. If it helps, I was convinced that the long gap meant something was wrong or it was going to take forever for my cycles to regulate but I’m now 10 weeks pregnant

I started bleeding on the 20th March and it lasted for around 4/5 days. That’s 7 weeks ago this Thursday. The doctor rang me on the 5th April to say my HCG levels were 0.

I still have no sign of my period. Hoping it’s not too much longer!!!

Blueplu · 05/05/2025 17:06

For both mc’s….one natural one medical it took 8 weeks for both and I was testing positive the entire time.
My second mc ended up in an infection x
