Intermittent fasting - should I stop?

Hello. I'm 4 weeks along and have been above my usual weight for 6 months now. I'm 5'2 and usually 55kg but now I'm 59kg. I'd been intermittently fasting 16:8 for a few weeks when I found out I was pregnant. I wasn't restricting calories otherwise.

In my last pregnancy I gained 20kg and probably had gestational diabetes. I started off at a very healthy weight and fitness but I probably ate more than I needed to.

I know I shouldn't diet when pregnant, but I do want to maintain a healthy weight throughout my pregnancy without worrying too much about calorie intake. I'm going to keep exercising of course.

Should I stop the fasting? Or maybe switch to 12:12, so I essentially just start eating breakfast again.

I’m no medical professional here. I am actually currently pregnant for the first time so no past experience. I do however have experience with fasting when not pregnant as have done it in the past for years and have a sister who is strictly on 16:8.

I think the sensible option would be listen to your body and drink and eat when your are hungry or thirsty regardless of time. If you eat healthy then you should only be gaining the pregnancy weight that is required to support a healthy pregnancy.

so all in all I’d say fasting is a no. Of course just my opinion and I know my pregnant body would suffer over benefit from this. I don’t want to gain weight and am conscious of this. At the same time I am hungry a lot so my priority is the pregnancy and il hit the gym and dieting again as before when I am done. Everyone is different of course. Congratulations on your pregnancy xxx

i used to do about 14 hour overnight fast before pregnancy but I found I needed breakfast first thing so relaxed it. But in first trimester I was going to sleep so early, I probably had 12 hour fast overnight! Honestly I’d listen to your body and see how you feel.

Thanks. I think listening to my body is a good point. I think since intermittent fasting I've been less hungry. I'll make sure I have a bit of breakfast and I see how I feel in the evenings.

I was doing 16:8 before I was pregnant, but my sickness has been so bad and regular small meals make it a tiny bit better so there was no way I could carry on without breakfast after I was about 7 weeks.
