So started brown spotting 2 days ago only slightly and now when I wipe I’m bleeding, please help!! How painful is this going to be? I’m 6 weeks… I have seen people saying it’s comparable to labour! I cannot deal with that at home with paracetamol that’s horrific!

Hi OP, I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's so hard to say how it'll be seeing as every woman and pregnancy is different. Are you bleeding as if you're having a normal period or is it very light and only on wiping?

LizzeyBenett · 06/06/2024 18:48

Hi I'm so sorry you're going through this. I had a MC at a day shy of 7 weeks I had spotting for days before hand and period like cramps the day of then bleeding but it wasn't actually that heavy I used tissue as I was stuck in work, I had one big gush of blood where I passed the pregnancy and knew it was coming so got to the bathroom in time I bleed a little bit after that and by the next morning barley needed a pad . My pain was no worse than a period and went after I had passed the pregnancy xxx

CosmicLove · 06/06/2024 18:49

Have you contacted your EPU? There are reasons other than MC for bleeding in pregnancy. If you're 6 weeks they would likely be happy to scan you so that you know what's going on. Sorry you're going through this. It's such a terrible worry xx

Ttcmumma · 06/06/2024 20:32

Hey Hun, I had a mmc at 14 weeks last year. I've had a birth before and after this. I needed misprosotol to help me pass the mmc baby. It hurts abit but not even remotely close to either of my labours. I had to look after my then 4 year old without him knowing much was going on. It hurt far more emotionally than physically x

Overthebow · 06/06/2024 20:36

I’ve had a miscarriage at 6 weeks and 2 labours and the miscarriage was no where near as bad as the labours. Was worse than my periods and a lot heavier but manageable at home. They tell you to go in if you bleed through pads in an hour, but unless that happens you’re at home.

Starrynight999 · 06/06/2024 20:41

Thanks for replying guys. I’m so scared, scared of the pain, the mental process, the bleeding I think this is awful
you have to do this at home with just paracetamol.. I have read people saying it’s the worst pain and doctors won’t help them..

Don’t worry, it does hurt but it’s really, really not the worst pain and nothing like labour. I’m not sure what a doctor would do to be honest, they wouldn’t give strong painkillers unless really bad, and being in a hospital would likely be worse surrounded by others when all you want to do is curl up at home and get it over with. It’s different later on in pregnancy like 18 weeks or something but at 6 weeks it’s more like a heavier period as it’s so small at that stage.

Starrynight999 · 06/06/2024 20:50

I really hope so! I just prefer the idea
if being in hospital where doctors can keep an eye , I hate the idea
of being at home! Even with both my kids I wanted to be in sooner the better because that hospital environment makes me more
comfortable Incase something happens, probably should
of mentioned I have servere health anxiety! So this is petrifing.

@Starrynight999 agree with a PP that I would call EPU as the pregnancy could still be ok - there can be other reasons for a bleed. If it is a loss then I'm very sorry - it's a very sad thing to go through.

I had three losses last year. One MMC at 11+4, one CP at 4+5 and a MC at 7wks. The latter two were just like periods for me. The MMC was the hardest but perfectly manageable at home with paracetamol and a hot water bottle. With that one, there was a brief time where it reminded me of early stage labour with my son. Mild contractions I would say. It was more the actual experience of the loss that was difficult, in that I flooded pads if I tried to move around. I ended up just sitting on the toilet tbh as it was fairly constant. It stopped overnight and then the next day mid-morning it stated up again and again, I just stayed on the toilet. The main loss was complete in 48hrs - confirmed with a scan next day. After that I just had pads on and it was like a light period for a week.

Again, really hope for a positive outcome for you but if it is a loss, you will be ok. It honestly isn't anywhere near as intense as actual labour. Sending you big hugs and hope you're as ok as can be. 💕

TheShellBeach · 07/06/2024 00:42

They'll only keep you in hospital if you're bleeding a lot.
They say if you're bleeding through a pad an hour, to go to A & E.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It's very upsetting.

Starrynight999 · 07/06/2024 06:18

so I woke up this morning felt
period pains nothing more, gush of
blood and 3 clots, still
bleeding when i go for a wee, and toilet
water is very red but period pains have calmed, surely that’s not the worst
part Passed, or am I in for a few long very
painful days? I’m 6
weeks.

@Starrynight999 everyone's experience is different tbh. I described mine briefly above. Mine stopped and started overnight so you may get more today but hopefully it'll not be much longer. My main loss was all over 48hrs. You should still let EPU know as they can check for retained products etc and also it will ensure the loss gets put on your record. Sorry again you are going through this. Go gently on yourself. Xx

TheShellBeach · 07/06/2024 11:23

OP I'm very sorry. Unfortunately, nobody on here can tell you how long this is going to take.

I think you need to be scanned, to see if there are retained products.

Starrynight999 · 07/06/2024 15:51

So still bleeding when go for a wee bit nothing much else, spoke to midwife and she said it might have passed she wasn’t sure? Surely I would have had more pain the period pains lasting longer and more blood at 6 weeks? This process is awful not I can’t leave the house all weekend just incase 😣

A little box comes up when you upload an image.

Starrynight999 · 09/06/2024 20:52

Like this but a bit more stripy in white and dark red, like TMI but I had to pull it out but it just wouldn’t drop
or push out 🫣

SnookyPook · 09/06/2024 21:54

@Starrynight999 I had something very similar with my MC. Wasn't ever quite sure if it was the baby or not tbh but I think everything died down a lot after passing that. Sending you a big hug. I imagine you're almost through now. I can't remember if you said - do you have another scan booked to check? X

Starrynight999 · 10/06/2024 06:30

This is what I’m finding so difficult not knowing if I have passed it or waiting for more it’s mental torture, have a scan at 1pm tomorrow so will know by then, but I’m bleeding lighter than a period,
when I wipe it’s fresh red blood and and a little in toilet but only filling half and in day, since passing that last night it only seems
to be when i wipe now, had the mildest period pain since Friday on and off so im so
confused but the thing is what came out was red and white/grey, almost
a bit stripy between red and grey and as awful as this sounds I have to pull a little because it look like just a stingy bit of blood hanging there but when I wiped it just wouldn’t go and then came out similar
to the photo, but every story I read said extreme pain and heavy bleeding which im
not getting, and also Friday morning passed like 3 blobs but they didn’t feel like a normal clot like when they slowly slide out on a period it felt like a whole thing, its sending me crazy!

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 10/06/2024 09:52

@Starrynight999 not every pregnancy loss is accompanied by severe pain.

The only way you're going to know for sure if everything has passed is via ultrasound.

Have you got an appointment at the EPU?

TheShellBeach · 10/06/2024 09:53

Ah sorry, I should have paid more attention. I see that you've got a scan booked.
