Severe Headache type pains

I've suffered quite a bit with headaches this pregnancy but this new one is odd.

Since Friday, everytime I bend or look down and then look up I get a pain in my head like a bolt being shot through my brain which makes me scream a little wierd!

And because I am forever looking down to talk to my 2 year old or helping her on and off the toilet, I'm starting to worry her a little with the constant agonised yelping!

I'm 29 weeks. Don't think it's pre-eclampsia as have no swelling or sudden weight gain

Am a little worried though as paracetamol doesn't take the edge of it at all

Think I'd better ring GP tomorrow actually.

Sounds a bit like you may have a trapped nerve somewhere if certain movements are bringing on the headache, perhaps your neck needs looking at by a chiropractor/physio/osteopath?

But, like you said, sudden 'new' severe headaches can be a sign of high blood pressure and/or pre-eclampsia so please get checked over by your midwife or GP asap. Pre-eclampsia can be difficult to diagnose as not all symptoms appear and often they appear in strange orders. I had PE with both my DCs but had no sudden weight gain and swelling wasn't 'abnormal'- and my BP wasn't a great indicator either to start with.

Hope it resolves soon and in the meantime rest up- have a warm relaxing bath or neck massage perhaps?!

Good luck xxx

I had pre-eclampsia with only a slight rise in bp no swelling. The headaches were excruciating. I would speak to your midwife if poss- it may just be a phase but worth getting checked out. Good luck

Thanks for that - I'm going to ring my GP first thing as head still really really sore.

catsypug how did you get on? Hope your head is better.

Hi Colette - spent the day in hospital yesterday. GP was a little worried so sent me along to get checked.

Turns out it's sinusitus! Thankfully. But it was scary because for a while they were talking blood clot in the brain and possibly doing a lumber puncture . I did end up having a scary MRI scan to look at my brain but nothing sinister found - cannot tell you how happy I was to see my little girl and husband last night knowing I get to live another day!!!!

Course of action - paracetamol! But to be taken regularly every 4 hours for a few days not just sporadically.

Thanks for checking on me

That's great - I had an MRI scan with dd , very freaky when you are pregnant. Keep well
