IVF Meds

Hello I am new here and I was told this was a good place to ask for help. My husband and I are starting IVF and I must say it is quite expensive. We were just given the price list for my prescriptions that BCBS does not cover and it is 5k. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get this cost closer? Looks like Menopur and Ganirelix are the most expensive from the list. Thanks in advance for the help.

Try ASDA pharmacy, 5k does sound like a lot. Mine was around £2500 but that was nearly 4 years ago.

It’s going to be difficult to compare as there as so many combinations of drugs and doses. Mine was around £1500 about 8 years ago. No idea if the pricing has generally shot up in the meantime though.

I second ASDA. They do IVF medication at cost price. The only thing they said was cheaper direct from the fertility clinic was injectable progesterone. Everything else was significantly cheaper. My clinic changed me £8 for a drug that Asda changed under a £1 for. The clinic was happy to write my prescription for free. You can always ask for a medication price list and go to Asda and get them to price things up for you. They were very accommodating.

Good luck with your IVF journey

Get quotes from Asda, fertility medication centre and your clinic. You need to shop around.

I thought clinic had stopped using menopur?

@patty1121 5K sounds excessive, my medication costs a few years ago were 1.5k for an egg collection round. I didn't bother going to ASDA as my clinic charged £250 for a private prescription! but for your situation it sounds like it might be worth it even if there is a prescription charge.

Just to also flag there is a MN infertility board you might want to look at if you're looking for support during your cycle. Good luck!
