OK, as predicted by about a zillion MN-ers on my 'Where is my morning sickness?' thread, I am now feeling nauseous virtually all day long and there are very few foods I can bring myself to eat.

Last time, I could only stomach pancakes with syrup or digestive biscuits during early preg, and craved cold milk, fruit n nut chocolate & roast chicken breast in late pregnancy. This time around I don't seem to be able to face any veg, meat or dairy and am living on carbs and fruit. What about you lot?

I lived off pasta salads, tomato and basil soup and fruit for the first 14 weeks. Craved carbs like a mad woman and ate enough to sink a battle ship. Consoled myself with the fact that it was all healthy(ish) stuff and not cake. Spent the last month eating cake but that was more about being on mat leave and living near a cake shop than any actual craving...

Felt exactly the same. Some days I couldn't eat at all. Couldn't even stand the smell of veg cooking. And the thought of eating broccoli - ewww. Lived on rice pudding and Smash combined with lemonade ice lollies for weeks. Eventually progressed to various processed pork products, sausage rolls (by the dozen), scotch eggs, pork pies. On a good day I could combine one of these with some Smash and almost have a meal (I know how to live, me). Didn't eat veg again till 16 wks and haven't eaten any meat (in meat form like a chop or a steak) or plain fish all thru pg (32 wks now). Still love pies, pasties and fish fingers. So much for taking better care of myself! I also craved milk - hot & cold, and ice cream. Despite losing my taste for all things caffeinated, I drank full fat coke all the way thru. Was a lifesaver for me on my low sugar days. Glad its over now, tho I gather I'm approaching the time when the nausea returns! Still have a secret stash of Smash, so will be OK!

I was lucky not to have any morning sickness, so eating wasn't really an issue...but I have been disturbed, after years of happy meat-free living, to find myself chowing down on steak like a starving hyena

At the moment I'm just feeling my usual passions (hot spicy stuff, pickley vinegar stuff) more intensely. Mmmm, pickled onions...oh god, I want one now.

MrsTittleMouse · 06/04/2008 18:00

I haven't been so bad this time, last time there was a list of about 5 things that I could eat. I couldn't eat fish (I don't eat meat anyway), eggs, milk, beans, vegetables, chocolate, tea and coffee. Thank heavens for cheese sandwiches or my poor DD would have been seriously protein-deprived.
This time I have a serious carb addiction, but things seem to be calming down earlier in the pregnancy. I'm still a bit fussy and picky about my food, but I can usually find something that's OK. Earlier I went through my Marmite biscuit phase, my rice krispie squares phase and my chocolate and raisin cereal bar phase. Now I can't look at any of them without feeling really grim.

FrannyandZooey · 06/04/2008 18:07

I could only eat potatoes cheese and mayonnaise I think
oh and m+s cheesecake
no chocolate or fruit
it was quite bad

1st time- craved jelly sweets in early pregnancy and was STARVING all the time and nauseous all the time. Had to get up in the middle of night to eat weetabix.

Was a boy

2nd time- went off everything sweet for about 20wks- made me feel really sick! Then craved strawberries, olives and sponges (the bath kind- to chew)

Was a girl

This time- craved jelly sweets, was really hungry but not as bad as no.1.
Craved ice cubes, sponges to a greater extent and olives to a lesser extent.

do you think it's a boy or a girl?
(due in 2 wks)

Last time i had Hash Brown craving to start with, choc & cake in the middle and refresher ice lollies at the end.

dreading what it'll be this time, although am determined it will not be choc or cake

MrsTittleMouse · 06/04/2008 18:18

I have been warned by the midwife to keep my weight down. So I really should be eating salad and fruit. Bleugh.

MrsMattie · 06/04/2008 19:17

I seriously don't want to put on the amount of weight I did last time . But the tea & biscuits are calling me....

i love salad and fruit i've told my colleagues at work if i get a choc or cake craving i must substitute with fruit, the grapes and strawberries are calling me!

kayzisexpecting · 06/04/2008 19:21

I didn't crave anything in 1st pregnancy. This time despite only being 4 weeks I am craving pickled onions.

My mum craved unlit cigerettes while expecting my brother. She used to buy packets and sniff them. Then give them to my uncle.

misdee · 06/04/2008 19:22

last tim i went off meat and carbs. i was living on salad and if i could stomache it, chicken breast. also craved fruit.

this time i am feeling sick a lot, but am craving chips. proper deep fried chips. with plenty of salt and vinegar. i'm going to end up huuuuge.

artichokes · 06/04/2008 19:41

this time i seem to be obsessed with red meat already (and I am only 5 weeks).

last time i just wanted carbs, carbs and carbs. doughnuts for breakfast and hude bowls of plain pasta with plain yoghurt sauce (hmm) for every other meal. this was interspersed with cakes but no veg or fruit. the word spinach was enough to make me gag (and I usually love spinach). I put on 5 stone overall . I am determined to put on less this time.

TheMuppetMuggle · 06/04/2008 19:45

i'm not really craving anything yet, feel to sick am only 4 weeks

hannahjb · 06/04/2008 20:58

granny smiths to start with, now eating ice cubes like they are going out of fashion, chalk, creosote, tar, petrol, wish I could have a normal craving like chocolate or something. the bonus about the ice cube craving is that I have 3 weeks to go and so far only put on 1st 6lbs, overweight to start with though so baby is just taking what it needs from my 'reserves' and I get to lose weight!!!!! brill!!!!!

ScaryHairy · 06/04/2008 21:01

The ice cube craving is very often a sign of iron deficiency, so you might want to up your intake of red meat (or iron tablets).
Also, be careful if your teeth - I have cracked enamel from my pregnancy-related ice cube crunching.

expatinscotland · 06/04/2008 21:04

Nothing yet.

But the worst bit of this pregnancy so far - aside from sinusitis - is that ANYTHING I eat after 6PM literally ferments in my stomach - I taste stale, foul beer - until I finally puke around 10PM.

I've gone completely off: tea/coffee, most meat and all breads.

Minkus · 06/04/2008 21:25

With ds I wanted grapefruit juice, all the time, which was odd as I had horrible hyperemesis all the way through until 31 weeks and my stomach always felt really acidy anyway. Couldn't bear the smell of lettuce (yes lettuce, ffs, it doesn't smell of anything does it?) or dh's aftershave or deoderant.

This time round (27 weeks tomorrow) I've had loads more cravings (hyperemesis again though)- full fat cold milk, high juice squash with ice cubes, murray mints (packets and packets consumed) lettuce (!) with balsamic vinegar, jacket potatoes with tinned salmon, oranges, but most overwhelming by far has been red meat. Specifically beef. I normally eat my steak blue anyway but have been a bit wary of it during pregnancy, although do confess to having a rather rare one or two. But embarrassingly I could easily imagine myself eating raw mince- I haven't given in to the temptation but cooking spag bol or chilli etc is really torturous!

TrinityTheProgressingRhino · 06/04/2008 21:29

with dd1 it was
murray mints
ice cream and tinned custardor
ice cream and yoghurt and I had no nausea

with dd2 it was melon and almost only melon till the nausea stopped at about 21 weeks, was hell

and that happened again with gecko

Minkus · 06/04/2008 21:52

Oooh Trinity another Murray Mint craver! Maybe this one is a girl then like your dd1
